Sunday vintage

The last few days have been a little crazy. I thought I was going to rescue kittens on Thursday but the plan backfired. The husband and I drove to Montreal Friday to pick up our new tulip dining chairs (and ended up also bringing back a headboard and bedside tables), then we spent the evening at Ikea because we found out one year that Halloween is the BEST day to go. I bought a new desk there that turned out AWESOME (photos to come soon). Yesterday we went to the Third World Bazaar, which I should point out is only open for a handful of weekends around Thanksgiving every year so there are only 2 left, and I scored some gorgeous kilim rugs to hide my icky yellow/orange stained hardwood (photos of that soon too). Today I have to paint the living room alcoves (I was supposed to start yesterday but ran out of time) and then it will finally be finished! 4 freaking weekends! AAGGHH!!! Needless to say I only had a few moments to spare to find something to blog today. I came across this apartment and had to share mostly because it is a chair porn extravaganza! The space, located in New York, belongs to stylist and designer Marcus Hay and was featured in Architectural Digest Russia. Marcus is a collector, and he is very smart about grouping his collections in small vignettes so the compact space doesn't look overcrowded.

Gelati spotted rooms of fun

Neither Kim nor I have kids. It goes a long way to explaining why we don't feature children's rooms on Desire to Inspire. (Besides which Kim's twin sister Julia has a great kid's design blog the boo and the boy so why compete :) The trouble is when I came across Petite Vintage Interiors by Belinda Kurtz I started oohing and aahing and gushing. I stopped short of wanting to have a child. I'll just have me some of the gelati spotted, vintage fun instead. I wish my room had looked like this when I was little.

My Deer

I admittedly spend alot of what little free time I have on Instagram. It is a wonderful place to virtually meet all kinds of creative people. I came across the Instagram account of designer/stylist/artist Maaike Koster of My Deer a while back and was smitten with her home and her style. Here is a selection from her interior/styling portfolio (she also specializes in concept design/branding).

Inside Out

October's issue of Inside Out hits the stands on Thursday and I'm excited. Managing editor Lee Tran Lam has sent us not one but two sneak peeks.

... the home of Table Tonic blogger and shop owner Louise Bell and her architect husband Graeme Bell. It's located on Sydney's northern beaches and is a modernist design by architect Loyal Alexander, who originally lived there. By the time that Graeme came across the home, four families had lived there since. "They were marketing it as a 'knock-it-down-and-build-two', which horrified us," said Graeme Bell. Luckily, his family moved in and saved that from happening. Readers will be able to visit this residence on Wednesday October 29, when it hosts our latest 'Open For Inspection' house tour, as led by editor Claire Bradley and ISCD educator and our panel's style expert Lisa Koehler. Tickets will be available at Moshtix from Thursday. Styling by Jason Grant and photography by Harold David.

Australian readers can pick up their copy of the October Inside Out on Thursday. Not in Australia? You can read along on  ZinioGoogle Play and the Apple Newsstand.
