Stalking monochrome Multiplicity in Melbourne

It's another case of stalking déjà vu. Architecturally designed homes we have featured previously on the blog seem to be hitting the market. Today I'm stalking this Brunswick East house by Melbourne-based architectural studio Multiplicity. If I remember correctly I was quite taken by the storage system in the kitchen. (You can see it in its architect's portfolio life here.) Now it's even more fabulous with its "styling for sale" by inside story, the latest collaboration between Lynda Gardener and Belle Hemming. Love, love, love the Grant Featherstone Numero modular chairs in the lounge area. I'm biased though because I have the same ones. The Bower Byron Bay

Hallelujah the week is almost over! Time to turn our thoughts to weekend getaways. One of my favourite spots to runaway to for a couple of days is Byron Bay on the New South Wales North Coast just a few hours drive from me. The curse of orange knotty pine walls

Whenever I've been asked what to do with ugly orange-stained knotty pine walls or ceilings I have always had one answer ... paint them, paint it all! Sometimes you can't. You could be renting, you might not have the money or the time to invest in such a big job. Then I came across this log cabin styled by Susan Burns and it was an epiphany. The knotty pine walls and ceilings are the perfect foil for the white furniture and soft furnishings. OK the brick fireplace and some of the floors have been painted but the often overpowering orange wood has definitely been softened by what I'm calling the "white within". A pretty solution don't you think?
