The shearer's quarters

An iconic building in the Australian built vernacular. The shearer's quarters. A home away from home for the itinerant workers who trekked from one sheep farm to the next. This new building sits beside an existing historical home where the original shearer's shed stood before fire destroyed it. When it came time to rebuild the owners turned to John Wardle Architects to recreate and reinterpret the space to accommodate workers, family and friends. Galvanised iron externally, timber internally, the bedrooms lined with old apple crates. This modern twist on the traditional shear's shed won the The Australian House of the Year at the Houses Awards. The Shearer's Quarters, Tasmania.

Yes please Joséphine!

Rustic barn meets exuberance and style. Quirky meets practicality. Concrete and chandeliers, modern art and aged oak beams. A barn conversion in Burgundy by Joséphine Gintzburger is pastoral perfection. It's rough luxe and bucolic drama and all the modern comforts. A weekend retreat to be shared with family and friends.

Rustic in Italy

A huge thanks to Deb who sent us a link to an Italian magazine "Le case di Elixìr". They feature gorgeous homes in several styles they call shabby chic, meltin' pot, classic and contemporary. I am most definitively drawn to the rustic, "shabby chic" homes in Italy that speak of history. I found one that made my heart melt. This is how I always imagined living in Italy (it's been a dream of mine forever, as my mom is Italian), in a rustic villa with stone/brick walls and floors and wooden beams, with bits of modern furnishings thrown in for shock factor. This villa is going to haunt me (delightfully) for a long time.

Sidi Kauki

Run away, far away to an exotic land. To a magical beach and a magical house. To Morocco and Essaouira. To a traditional Dar but one with a difference. Retro and funky, modern and quirky. Bespoke yet family orientated. You'll find me by the open fire with my toes buried in the beni ouarain. Sidi Kauki via Airspace locations.

Saturday with friends

Late afternoon. The sun is hanging low in the west. A cool breeze nips and snaps to remind me that winter hasn't quite gone yet. I'm sitting waiting for friends to arrive. Wine, cheese, light the fire when the sun goes down. Jazz and chicken pot pie for dinner. Maybe mushy pies. A movie with orange almond cake during the interval. (Remember intervals and choc top cones?) Easy going, relaxed and just perfect. A bit like this warehouse space. Warm, cosy, real. Perfect for a Saturday afternoon with friends. Found at the always inspiring Airspace Locations. The Shoe Factory.
