Richard Bubnowski

Richard Bubnowski is an architect and furniture designer based in New Jersey and I am totally digging his portfolio. He's all about casual homes that are contemporary with a nod to the traditional, and have a rustic, beachy vibe (and often happen to be right on the beach!). It's so fresh and liveable that I'm just eating it up! (I don't know what it is about cedar shingles but I want some on my next house. Somewhere).

A modern farmhouse

I seem to be on a serious rustic kick these days. And it continues today! Ron tipped us off about a magazine called Garden & Gun. (Perhaps they're due for a name change?) It's about Southern American culture and low and behold, has a Home & Garden section! I found this modern farmhouse feature and completely fell head over heels for this gorgeous home. It's located outside the small town of Chester, South Carolina and was designed by architect Ken Pursley. It's rustic with modern touches and the exterior is totally adorable. I freaking love it. Now I'd modernize it a bit more with the furnishings and probably lose the rope railing but WOW, what fun I would have decorating the bejeezus out of this! (Photos by Stacey Van Berkel)

Twin Farms

This post is pushing all of my rustic buttons let me tell ya. Meaghan emailed us about this place, as she likes to hunt for the perfect getaway cabin this time of year. I hear ya Meaghan! She found these cottages, Twin Farms, located in Vermont and what a vacation this would be. It consists of a farmhouse (dating from the late 1700s), 5 cottages were added in the 90s, and with more additions the accommodations are now 20. It's stunning, as you will see from this selection of photos from several of the cottages.

A renovated fisherman's cottage

I saw this article online at The Guardian (UK) and was instantly wowed. It's a completely renovated Scottish fisherman's cottage that is so old it was extended in 1809 to fit accommodations. After a major architectural makeover inside and out, and with the use of reclaimed materials and vintage furniture, it's now a funky mix of old and new, rustic and modern. Read more about it here.

Rustic with a twist

While I'm on a role with rustic interiors, how about another one? This completely renovated cabin is located in the town of Megéve in the French Alps. It was a 2 year project to renovate the 1870 structure, and was decorated by Belgian decorator Lionel Jadot. It's filled with an unexpected mix of vintage finds and elements from trips to Africa, Asia and Europe. The decor is a fantastic surprise, but I'm a little taken aback by the Bisazza tiles on the kitchen island. Those don't make sense to me for this home - they're too elegant. Everything else = LOVE!!!
