Heidi's new pad

Back in May of last year, Jo blogged the awesome San Francisco pad of DTI reader Heidi Lender. It turns out Heidi recently moved to Uruguay, and she gave us a little glimpse of her home in the first photo of this pet post a few weeks ago. She kindly sent us some photos of her new digs, along with a bit of info. She's done an incredible job and I'm so excited to share it with you all.

Excited about our new digs -- a century-old ranch in Uruguay, whose dilapidated little house we are in the midst of remodeling -- and wanted to share (even though it's not completely done). We sent a container's worth of our belongings from San Francisco, and smattered with its contents, this rundown house felt immediately like home (not without a lot of construction woes and obstacles and dust, of course). You can see all of the furnishings from the San Fran flat that you posted back in May....amazed at how different it all looks down here. We bought the O'Keefe and Merrit stove off of Craigslist and shipped it down too, along with the vintage sink in the bathroom that had been sitting in our backyard forever, waiting for the perfect home.

P.S. Her photos are pretty fab - turns out she's a photographer! Check out her website here. I freaking love her Once Upon self-portait series (a photo-tale that examines the individual through fashion and environment). A few of those photos are featured after the jump.

Some readers' bedrooms

We received emails from Stephanie (from Montreal) and Bec who wanted to show off their bedrooms that they say were inspired by desire to inspire. Big smiles from both Jo and I as we're here to inspire the pants off of you all. I thought I'd share them with you today, starting with Stephanie's (the rest of Stephanie's and Bec's will be after the jump).

I've been a big fan of your blog for a while now, and your posts have definitely been a huge inspiration for my new bedroom. Though I'm not a professional photographer with a big (and expensive!) camera, I've got some decent shots and a very adorable kitten is even featured !

Reader's home update (sort of)

Right before Christmas I blogged this dreamy modern home belonging to Anne and her husband Sam. I fell in love with it immediately and I really should show some photos of it to my architect. Anyway, back in August there was a photo shoot at their home and published last month in the magazine Design Bureau (check out the story here). It was photographed by Alan Foreman and his photos are GORG. I think there is something to be learned with the following photos...if you're not really keen on how you've decorated, a half naked model sprawled around your house can help as a distraction! (This wasn't Anne's case though - her house was FAB before the model showed up). Thanks Anne!

Reader's home - a student's apartment

We recently heard from Neslihan, a student who says she's lucky to have managed to move to a studio this year and decorated it in a very short time. Here's some info she provided: I'm a Turkish girl studying masters in architecture in Netherlands. I live in Delft and my apartment is in the center of the city. The building is an old bakery warehouse dated circa 1900. It's renovated last year by MBW Architecten based in the Hague/Netherlands. Wooden and steel beams and steel columns are original. Also window frames are original details from the old construction. The open space of the apartment is around 25 m2. Together with the entrance and bathroom it's a total of 30 m2. Her apartment is  cozy, the openness of the space is fabulous, and I am digging her furniture placement. She's not a bad photographer either! So without further ado, let me introduce you to Neslihan's home.

Reader reno

How's this for a reader's reno! Lisa and her family stripped, ripped, roofed, windowed and walled. They painted and floored. Recovered old chairs and hung lights and shelves. They made themselves an attic retreat perfect for sewing and stowing, reading and chilling. Work your way down. It's well worth the scroll. A fabulous room and it once was a "hole". Sorry for the bad rhymes but well done Hobbs family!
