Reader's home update (sort of)

Right before Christmas I blogged this dreamy modern home belonging to Anne and her husband Sam. I fell in love with it immediately and I really should show some photos of it to my architect. Anyway, back in August there was a photo shoot at their home and published last month in the magazine Design Bureau (check out the story here). It was photographed by Alan Foreman and his photos are GORG. I think there is something to be learned with the following photos...if you're not really keen on how you've decorated, a half naked model sprawled around your house can help as a distraction! (This wasn't Anne's case though - her house was FAB before the model showed up). Thanks Anne!

actually, i find the model somewhat annoying - she's covering up bits of the scenery and that's what i'm interested in. you're right - great home!

Not a little annoying. A lot.

Jeez, get some clothes on woman! Like 'pets on furniture' without the charm.

Personally, I don't find little girls undressed a nice interior accessory unless you're showing a pediatrician's office. Even then, it's kinda icky. I realize I may be in the minority, but I wouldn't want to see a half dressed young boy erotically posed on the furniture either!

I don't like the posing women either. I don't understand why you've posted these photos. I was going to forward a link to your website to my girlfriend who is remodeling her home but not now. Wow, bad judgement call.

Clearly some people just need to chill out and stop being so uptight, it’s just a chick in her undies! I think these are really cool photos and I don't know what everyone got their knickers in a twist about?

Forget the model, i'm really loving the yellow door and stool!

I stand by my decision to post these photos. I think they're really cool and I appreciate them as "art". If some of you can't appreciate them as art, that's unfortunate. And kind of sad.

Marvelous house, and I love that front door. Considering what color to paint mine, so I appreciate seeing beautiful options like this.

i am really disappointed that those who chose to express their opinion about the annoying model on a "home design" blog are being chastized. it's their opinion. there is nothing sad about that. you feel it is art, others don't. i ask that you respect that while you remain entitled to your own judgement calls on what you chose to post. i don't want to stop checking your blog, so please, i beg you, be a bit more diplomatic.

I sure hope those models don't read the comments section....their poor feelings would be hurt :-( I think folks are entitled to express their opinions but should do so politely.

When did I chastise anyone or be undiplomatic or not show respect? I agree everyone can say whatever the hell they want about these photos AND disagree with me. I just wanted to reiterate why I posted them and express MY opinion as I also have a right to do.

16 Feb 2011 | Registered CommenterKiM

i apologize, chastise was the wrong word. i just think a half dressed model is too provocative for a design blog. no doubt she is beautiful, and the photography is as well and she could be a very nice person and i would hate to hurt her feelings, but i agree with those who felt her placement was annoying. i guess i became defensive when you called your devoted reader's opinion about what is/isn't art "sad". my bad.

FYI, Renaissance paintings of naked women is "art." Little girls posing provocatively in their underwear is more like kiddie porn than art.

people should chill out! the girl looks great and so what if she's in her undies? she's pretending to be at home and that's how you roll when you are at home! house looks great, by the way!

Wow, if you don't like it scroll to the next post. I don't think we need censorship on DTI.
Personally I like them.

I think this blog needs a little spice every once in a while. And I won't hesitate to BRING IT every once in a while. Thanks to those who feel me on that.

This house is amazing, the photos are great, and the girls are beautiful. DTI ladies, thank you for doing all that you do each and every day, seriously!! Lovely post!

I think the model is an unnecessary distraction here...but that's just my opinion...I totally support your decision to post these pictures, Kim...its your blog, hence your prerogative...Cheers ...you are doing a great job!!

WOW......WOW.............WOW
Such an AMAZING blog that I must visit every day and occasionally read posts , but I am AMAZED at how bent out of shape people can be! This is about what the blogger wants to share, wether agreed upon or not, the viewer should appreciate where the creative mind is and how it is being shared. L I F E design fashion creativity.......just E N J O Y!
....and to Kim BLESS your cotton sox gal friend! you fill my mind and days with inspiration!

you're very diplomatic, kim. i would have told these entitled jerks to stop reading the blog if they can't extend you the simple courtesy of not posting unnecessary comments that do nothing more than belittle and attack you, and, reveal their ignorance and utter lack of decorum.

I only lately commenced leaving comments! Makes me think a small significantly more about what I enjoyed and learned about the post! Amazing topic thanks!

I don't mind half-naked people in photos and think it's great that Kim found the photos beautiful. However, with the exception of the kitchen photo with the yellow stool (and the one with the yellow door) - I didn't care for these either. I thought the original post made the house look more interesting and inviting. I think people find the model annoying because she's not styled or placed in any way that shows off the house. We all dream a little in seeing these awesome posts, so when there are people we think curiously to ourselves, "who's that?" Then we think, "what are they doing?" So when my mind wondered, "why is she here?" I began to wonder who styled the shoot and what were they going for and by then I was frowning! I had to laugh at myself and just moved on to the next post. I love the first lamp in the Far Fetchers photo! Way cool.
Thanks for sharing, Kim. Keep it up.

I think you all (that includes you, Kim) need to have a good read of a recent post on The Stories of A-Z, titled "The Power of Hurtful Words: A Commentary on Women's Relationships in Blogging". A little more thought-before-typing would go a long way.

Holly cow, people get bent out of shape! It's not like you TOOK the photos Kim! Blimey. Having said that, who ever did take the photos was a bit of a perv. I am surprised that these photos were taken for a design mag, as they do look like they are for a men's mag- a male fantasy. But isn't that a whole other can of worms?!! A lovely home though- but I would have preferred these photos in colour. I also want to see the big Brit flag in that bedroom in full!
