Skyline

Is this the ultimate home cinema? Pass the popcorn and roll the film, I'm moving in. Perched on a ridge line in the Hollywood Hills, the Skyline Residence by Belzberg Architects may incorporate sustainable design practices, may have clean modern lines, expansive rooms with outrageous views through vast walls of glass but what we all will be pinning and filing away for another day will be the outdoor theatre. Genius.

Coogee apartment

The renovation and extension of this 1930s duplex by Virginia Kerridge Architect saw a double height box added behind the building extending the lower floor apartment. The contemporay space provides a kitchen dining area above and an intimate sitting area that opens to a pool. "The concept behind the scheme was to leave the existing building in close to original condition with the addition being treated as a “box” for living in..." Please Santa. I've been a good girl this year. Could you leave an extension just like this behind my house this Christmas morning?

Stalking Harry Seidler

I'm stalking a modernist gem today. Stalking a piece of Australian architectural history. My Australian midcentury modern friends will be going weak at the knees. Here's what the real esate agent says ... "We live in a disposable society, in an age when so many things in life are too often forgotten or disposed of to make room for bigger and newer things. So it's a precious surprise when one encounters a stunning home that has survived the times, continuing to act as a testament to the era and style of which it was built. It's even more precious, when the architect who designed the home intelligently and specifically, is none other than the father of Australian modern architecture, Harry Seidler." Located in Beaumont, South Australia it is his only home built in this state.

What I love the most is how it is a well loved family home, that kids hang aeroplanes from the ceiling and maps and medals from the walls, that updates are sympathetic to the era and that the pool is original! A small midcentury marvel well loved and well used by a modern family. Perfect and imperfect. Link here while it lasts. (Thanks Andrea for finding this one for us.)

Hot summer nights

You'll find me here with a bowl of popcorn or maybe a pizza slice and definitely a dip in the pool if the on screen action gets a little too hot. Love this house by Koning Eizenberg.

The cure for Mondayitis

Come with me. Take my hand and runaway to a holiday home just metres from the  beach in Comporta, Portugal. Casa Do Pego sits lightly on the sand, its face turned to nearby agricultural land. Sliding shuttersprovide shelter from the setting sun while a roof top terrace and pool let you chill out in privacy. Clean, minimal lines are perfect for a beachside retreat while the suspended fireplace provides the wow factor. Go on. I know you want to come with me. It's the perfect cure for Mondayitis.
