Lofty love

My love affair with New York firm Selldorf Architects continues. A vast, lofty, wide open, light streaming in, killer industrial windows type of lovin'. Stark white expanses anchored by dark floors and warmed by wood and colour blocks. And the whole idea of descending down into a TV "pit" just makes me grin like an idiot. Great bones brought to life with great design.

A spacious loft

This property is loft living at its finest. I have and always will adore loft spaces. The ability to have all that space, and those huge windows and high ceilings, to be able to cram it with furniture or keep it at sparse as you wish...the possibilities are endless. This loft is to die for. It's 2700 sq ft in a warehouse-style building located in London, with 3 bedrooms, each with it's own bathroom. It's been totally renovated by the current owner, and one of my favourite features is the flooring continuing along the wall in the kitchen and in the media area. I'd just throw in some industrial touches like some funky light fixtures and maybe some metal carts/cabinets and I would settle in quite nicely. :) (More details here, and the agent's page here

Simon Upton's loft for sale!!!

The kind folks over at London estate agency Domus Nova sent over some photos of a SWEET converted warehouse in Notting Hill for sale - that happens to be superstar interior and portrait photographer Simon Upton. It's a beautiful space and Simon's decor is impeccable - love the ethnic touches and mixes of eras with the vintage furnishings. Here are a bit of details about it: A private ground floor entrance leads to a double-height entrance hall lit by huge overhead skylights. From here a staircase leads to a vast living space which is pitched to double-height in the centre. This impressive open plan room spans nearly 50 feet in length and measures over 1000 square feet. In the centre, a sky-lit mezzanine creates a sizeable master bedroom with further space for a home office area. The white washed room is floored by lime washed ash wood throughout and is lit by sky lights and large industrial style windows. The property further comprises a second bedroom, a family bathroom with a traditional roll-top bath and a useful utility room. At the top is a private roof terrace... I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Simon must have taken these photos. ;) (Link HERE)

Communicating Vessels

We recently heard from Barcelona architect Victor Gonzalez, of TC-Interiors, who wanted to share one of his projects with our readers.
Communicating Vessels is a 250 sq.m complete apartment renovation, located in the Modernist neighborhood of Barcelona. The design layout is a response to the client’s wish for a united, open space that could benefit the natural light form early in the morning to late afternoon. For this reason, all mid-walls were demolished and the windows at the communal side façade were enlarged. The only enclosed department built from the scratch is the Core, which includes the guest room and the service areas, leaving the rest of the space diaphanous. Every use is 'marked' by a Lighting Carpet, a customized and highly resolved lighting system. As the floor carpets do, the Lighting Carpets, 'warm up' a specific territory of this home while the same time, indicate the use, by their distinct positioning and size. This loft space is HOT. I love the concept of using lighting to delineate a space - much more creative than throwing down some area rugs.

Lavender Bay Boatshed

Lavender Bay Boatshed, a three storey apartment in the renovation of an historic timber building on Sydney harbour. The design explores space, solid and void, pulling and stretching and piercing. The expansive and public meets the private and contained all tied together with skylights and shafts that frame "that" view and draw in the light. By Stephen Collier Architects.
