Mapesbury Road

You have seen snippets of it before. Admired it in magazines. It is littered through the portfolios of leading photographers. It's a confection of girliness, a collection of the beautiful and the kitsch, covetable to the max, contagious in its quirkiness and a compilation of inspiring rooms. It's the home of stylist Marianne Cotterill. It's Mapesbury Road, London. Photography by Oliver Perrott.

Saturday with friends

Late afternoon. The sun is hanging low in the west. A cool breeze nips and snaps to remind me that winter hasn't quite gone yet. I'm sitting waiting for friends to arrive. Wine, cheese, light the fire when the sun goes down. Jazz and chicken pot pie for dinner. Maybe mushy pies. A movie with orange almond cake during the interval. (Remember intervals and choc top cones?) Easy going, relaxed and just perfect. A bit like this warehouse space. Warm, cosy, real. Perfect for a Saturday afternoon with friends. Found at the always inspiring Airspace Locations. The Shoe Factory.

47 Park Avenue

Instead of doing my usual blog favourites of late post today, at the last minute I decided to instead feature one really inspiring blog instead. I heard about 47 Park Avenue a while back via an email from one of its creators, Michael, an owner of London based locations company Shoot Factory. Michael and his partner Jonathan purchased 47 Park Avenue in May of last year, a stunning home (with 3 reception rooms! 5 bedrooms!) that was desperately in need of some wallpaper removal, paint jobs, walls knocked out and pretty much a complete overhaul. They've been working very hard to get their home out of the 50's and into the new millennium and while still a work in process, what has been accomplished so far is incredible. The vintage furniture and lighting they have sourced is all TO-DIE-FOR, and everything being painted black and white is just right-on. And their dogs are too cute! Their blog and the progress on their home is a must-follow. (I had to include some before photos so you get the full effect of the transformation).

I love this house!

Main reasons why I love this location home from 1st Option (some spaces admittedly need some work like the living and dining rooms):
1. chandelier in hallway
2. b/w photography framed in white with white mats
3. ornate mirrors everywhere (so fab in the kitchen)
4. b/w photography featuring deer
5. all white dreamy kitchen
6. mercury glass (or tin?) pendants
7. massive kitchen island
8. gorgeous wallpapers
9. capiz shell chandelier
10. bathroom vanity (vintage cabinet with modern sinks and wall mounted faucets on tiled backsplash)

Some light

This is the first of 2 posts I have for you today. There is such a huge difference in the mood of a space depending on the colour scheme used...whether it be light or dark. This space is all about white and beige. Classic and French-inspired. The perfect space for a bookworm (although it could use some work - some of the furnishings are just plain icky).
