Lush and green

After a dry, dry winter the rains have come and my garden has sprung to back to life with new growth and a flush of flowers but oh how I wish this Melbourne garden by Ben Scott Garden Design was mine! The front is filled with free flowing plantings, lush and green beneath mature trees. (I'll admit I've always wanted a swing tied to a big old bough.) A more structured garden with alfresco entertaining space, fireplace and kitchen garden completes the space.

Ivy and stone

It might be winter in my part of the world but that didn't stop me pottering around the garden on the weekend. Pruning and raking, simple hard landscaping and planning for the summer to come. Dreaming of courtyard gardens with sandstone paving and ivy growing up walls, firepit and crunchy gravel, sun traps and sunken ponds. Hideaway in the city

I can't help it. Even though it's winter here I keep daydreaming about backyards and outdoor spaces. And if I owned a teeny tiny courtyard garden behind a terrace house in the inner city I couldn't think of a better outdoor solution. Pool, a place to sit and soak up the sun, benches for friends to gather, perhaps a slightly bigger table for al fresco dining, a frangipani to grow up and give me shade in the summer and sun in the winter and the promise of a carpet of sweet smelling flowers at my feet.
