Black and white

I bought a few Spanish decor magazines while on holidays (I had to leave them behind because my suitcase was overweight dammit!) and this eye-popping apartment was featured in one of them. It is located in Milan, in a building designed by noted Italian architect Giò Ponti, and is the home of Italian interior designer Barbara Falanga. This bold, graphic apartment is all about black and white, with retro furnishings from the 30s to the 70s. Glam with edge. Not for the timid!

A Miami beach house

Ruben D. Gutierrez of Errez Design emailed us about his latest project - a Miami Beach home that happens to be a hideaway for a celebrity. It's about as glamourous as beachy decor gets, and I think Ruben did a fabulous job keeping it casual yet posh enough to fit in with the grandeur of the home. I am smitten with the bird lamps in the dining room. So cute! (And OMG, to have this much space.....my house fits in the left side of the garage above)

Stalking on a Saturday

It's a little bit rock and roll and a little bit disco. It's a little bit wham bam glam and a little bit suburban. It's a whole lot of HDR photography making it hard and brash and bright but I'm sure if the owners actually let me in and I wasn't left to stalk their home online then I think I might just like this Armadale, Melbourne house a whole lot more. Zebra by the pool, chartreuse velvet with marabou in the living areas and starburst mirrors in the kitchen. My favourites? The chandeliers. Who would have thought such an ornate old fashioned chandi would work so well in such a slick kitchen? Link here while it lasts.

Grateful Head Salon

Oh my word! Talk about rock and roll glam! Just in from Canadian photographer Brenda Liu, the Grateful Head Salon.

I photographed this for my friend Lysa Fina who owns the salon (located in Toronto). I think there are number of elements that would translate well into a home. The space has a rock 'n roll vibe with lots of funky details, for example the raised velvet skull wallpaper and the all red show stopping bathroom. It's far from the typical all white salons we are so used to.

I've included "before" photos so you can see the transformation of the space. The salon was designed with the help of Lysa's friend and professional set designer, Nancy Niksic. I hope you enjoy!

What a transformation. Love the bathroom, the distressed walls, the skulls and Brenda captures the space perfectly. With a salon this cool the hair must be hot!

Luminous beauty

European style meets Hollywood Regency. The transformation of this Madrid space from what was once shabby offices (and before that the headquarters of a religious order) to a sophisticated and glamorous family homes is nothing short of stunning. From the restoration of fine architectural details to the pure exuberance of the decoration it is the work of interior designer Soledad Suárez de Lezo. Can you believe she was once a lawyer before following her heart and training as a designer? Soledad emailed us to share her success at being published in one of Spain's hottest interior design magazines Nuevo Estilo. These are some of the images from the 16 page spread they did called Luminous Beauty. Congratulations Soledad - both on the feature and the amazing transformation. Luminous beauty indeed!
