Grateful Head Salon
Oh my word! Talk about rock and roll glam! Just in from Canadian photographer Brenda Liu, the Grateful Head Salon.
I photographed this for my friend Lysa Fina who owns the salon (located in Toronto). I think there are number of elements that would translate well into a home. The space has a rock 'n roll vibe with lots of funky details, for example the raised velvet skull wallpaper and the all red show stopping bathroom. It's far from the typical all white salons we are so used to.
I've included "before" photos so you can see the transformation of the space. The salon was designed with the help of Lysa's friend and professional set designer, Nancy Niksic. I hope you enjoy!
What a transformation. Love the bathroom, the distressed walls, the skulls and Brenda captures the space perfectly. With a salon this cool the hair must be hot!

I'm SO stealing...er, borrowing... some of these ideas for a building I own.
beautiful space.... how are the haircuts?
Fabulous...the concept from the front windows all the way back to the client toilet is awesome. Kudos to the designer!
Lysa that is the most amazing transformation I have ever seen!! You are so talented - with your beautiful salon and your beautiful voice. xxoo
What a beautiful salon - Love it!!!
reply to Polly - it's a great place for a haircut. friendly, and fun with very experienced staff. i've never had any other stylist spend so much time making sure my hair looked good and that I was completely satisfied before I left. Lysa the owner, takes the time to listen to your needs without making you feel your concerns aren't important, always recommending the best stylist suited for you, she really cares.
I love it, love it all! I have a sample of the skill wallpaper that is show, I LOVE the idea of using it with the gloss tiles to off set the darkness of it. The Leopard print upholstered chair is also a gorgeous touch. The detailing is divine, I wish I lived close by I'd get my hair cut there for sure!
This salon is in the lovely Toronto neighbourhood of Roncesvalles. I'm told they offer you a glass of wine while your hair is being done. BTW, it is on the same street as Green Light District.
Thank you all for the lovely comments. Brenda Liu (photographer) and Nancy Niksic (design/decor) are wonderfully talented and I am so priveleged to be able to work with them both. This article was a delightful way to start my day! - Lysa
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!!! If i was a hairdresser I would love coming to work here.
PS. Can I have all the old sinks, basin & bathtub! ;-)
A big difference since the first time I was there, almost 5 or 6 years ago. What an improvement, good job in the new look. I hope to see it in person again, when I make to Toronto again, for my hair cut of course.
Ive recently used that most brilliant skull wallpaper in a bedroom - it looks brilliant!
I LOVE IT. I don't even like skull stuff but this is fabulous.
