I am completely head over heels in love with this 19th century apartment in Berlin designed and styled by Annabell Kutucu (in collaboration with Michael Schickinger). Throw in a bunch of cats, a few plants and I could very happily call this home. Forever.
I have become a huge fan of Polish/German interior and furniture design studio Loft Szczecin and wanted to share one of their latest projects. Designer Ewa Adamiak kindly sent over some info. Our project was done in a former warehouse of a marmalade factory, which operated before World War II in Szczecin (Poland). The project involved reconstruction of one of the open spaces for an apartment divided into 4 rooms (living room with a kitchenette, bedroom, office, bathroom). In the most part of the loft we preserved historic, wooden floors that have been restored. All the kitchen furniture were designed and built by Loft Szczecin. Countertops were made of white marble and kitchen furniture of plywood. The rest of the furnishing is vintage furniture and lamps from the 50s and 60s from Denmark, the Czech Republic, Poland and the Netherlands. The furniture have been renovated by Loft Szczecin. For decoration we used a poilsh rug from the 30s. All of that exposed brick is absolutely incredible. And those floors! And that sofa! (Check out previous features here, here and here)
In complete contrast to my "All black" post yesterday which did not get any love, I bring you this all white space by Loft Szczecin. Where I love dark spaces for their drama, there is something to be said about the brightness of a monochromatic white home. I find dark spaces so intriguing, especially while white Scandinavian spaces seem to have been all the rage as of late. Nothing against white, I am just a bit tired of it. I have not regretted painting my living room dark grey (Farrow & Ball's Down Pipe) and I have plans to darken other spaces around my house. As soon as I get some breakfast in me today, I will be working on painting my bedroom a dark-ish colour - Farrow & Ball's Mouse's Back. The 100 m2 apartment of designer Sylvester Kotsolek in Berlin from Architectural Digest Russia caught me eye - because the entire space is black! This is so moody and gorgeous. Kudos to Sylvester for having the guts to go black.
I wanted to share another project by Loft Szczecin, where simplicity is the key, allowing beautiful furnishings and lighting to take centre stage. The hardwood floors are pretty incredible too. (Speaking of hardwood floors, my living and dining room floors and staircase are being refinished on Tuesday. Can't wait - BUH BYE orange!!! Going to stay with my folks during the process and leaving the cats here to survive in the basement and kitchen...this should be interesting)
