The Ottawa Antique Show

I had a blast at the Ottawa Antique Show - twice! I went Friday afternoon and spent about 2.5 hours tagging all of my favourite items while snapping photos, and then when it opened my husband and I went wandering around again. He bought me an old leather doctor's bag (check it out on my page) and I bought a gorgeous modernist necklace by Robert Larin. We returned yesterday morning with my family for a fun outing together - my husband picked up a few silly things when I wasn't watching (LOL) and I snagged some more modernist jewelry (slight obsession). You can see my jewelry purchases over on closet rivalry. Unfortunately I didn't pick up anything for the house because I simply have no room for anything new. :( P.S. Today is the last day of the show!

Here are a whole bunch of photos I took on Friday. Photos 3-7 are from my favourite booth which is also where I picked up the jewelry. It's Samantha Howard Vintage from Toronto. Samantha and her modernist jewelry and mid-century ceramics were awesome and I am a new huge fan.

Garbo Interiors

There is something very calming and natural about traditional Swedish décor. I stumbled upon the website of Garbo Interiors recently and wow, would I ever love to check out their shop in Stockholm. Here are some interiors they've designed and some products shots as well.

Furniture frenzy at the European fairs

My pals Deborah and David of Green Light District (the awesome shop now in Toronto where I got this dreamy chair) just got back from the IMM trade show in Cologne and Maison & Objet in Paris, and kindly shared with my a bunch of the photos they took. I thought I'd pass them along so you can get a glimpse of some of the really cool designs that are up and coming. Deborah put together a little list of what seemed to be popular at these shows:

1.  Shift back to lighter woods (mostly European oak) in all furniture pieces
2.  Most dining tables were oblong or oval or just a plain unusual shape
3.  European kitchens are modular and transportable (when they move apartments, kitchens move too)
4.  European kitchen technology is far superior to ours, just look at those vent hoods!
5.  Every manufacturer featured a desk that was sleek, compact, functional and beautiful
6.  Poofs are crazy popular
7.  Colour is back big in upholstered furniture, glassware, ceramics, kitchen cabinetry
8.  Felt & wool galore on chairs, stools, poofs
9.  Tall candlesticks making a comeback

Paradise at Patonga

I couldn't resist. I've featured this home before but when I found it again on the Koskela website with even more pictures I had to share. It's Dickebusch, a 2 bedroom holiday home, with separate cottage in the fishing village of Patonga north of Sydney. Renovated by the duo behind Koskela furniture - Russel Koskela and Sasha Titchkosky - it is the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life. Relaxed and stylish. Warm and fashionably laid back. Imagine your perfect holiday shack full of Koskela furniture, lighting and objects. Throw in some vintage pieces and collectables and it is just about heaven. Sleeps 8. Now there will be two from DTI ... that leaves 6 more. Just leave your name if you want to join us ;)

Sarah's chairs

Remember our Matt Blatt competition? Those fab chairs? Sarah, the lucky winner has sent us a pic.

"I just wanted to say another big thank you for picking me as the winner of the Matt Blatt Acapulco replica's, they've arrived and are as comfortable as they look. I prefer using them outside but when I'm not, they make a nice little nook under my favourite painting in the lounge room!"

Very cool Sarah!
