Lona Design

Katherine Newman founded her Toronto-based company Katherine Newman Design, and has a very interesting approach. She will only decorate a home that is jointly built by her partner Peter Cebulak, an architectural designer and builder. Her style is quite stately and far from my taste but I found the following photos to be beautiful nonetheless.

Through her design endeavours also came about Lona Design, a line of furniture designed by Katherine and Peter that is inspired by 18th century English furniture, oriental pieces, shaker style, and French and Danish furniture of the 30's and 40's. So elegantly understated and sophisticated. Now this is more like it!

Animal print furniture

Naturally because I love zebra rugs, I also have a thing for animal print furniture (again, FAUX). It's graphic, somewhat rustic, and bold. I would love to recover one of my old upholstered chairs in a great animal print (probably zebra). I figure, I live with 5 cats, animal prints would be very suitable here. :)

Aidlin Darling

Joshua Aidlin and David Darling head the multidisciplinary design firm Aidlin Darling Design. This San Francisco based team focus on architecture, interior design and furniture design. I would love to be sitting at the desk above staring out into the garden, trying hard to ignore my blogging duties. Love their clean modern lines and clever spatial solutions. Take the time to check out their furniture when you're over at their website.

Ruthie Sommers

Somehow neither Jo nor I have posted about Ruthie Sommers. She is hugely popular in the design scene and as everyone knows, was on the cover of Domino's first issue. She is a design goddess and her style rocks beyond words. She only has a few pics of interiors on her site but had many fab photos in her store's (Chapman Radcliff Home) gallery. OH LA LA. I want it all.

Gotta love cranberry velvet

OK, maybe some of you don't care for cranberry velvet but when I saw this couch on Craigslist I had to have it. My boyfriend and his friend picked it up for me tonight. (Thanks guys!) It was advertised as a Bauhaus sofa but that term seems to be used so loosely I figured that meant the style was Bauhaus. Turns out it is actually made by Bauhaus because it's printed all over the fabric under the seat cushions. I really have no idea what that means - if the $80 my boyfriend paid for this was a steal of the century or not. If anyone out there knows any details of Bauhaus furniture, please share...I'm very curious. (P.S. My green wall sadly will have to go.)
