The house at .... again

Yesterday's House at Hautefage divided opinion so I couldn't resist posting its sister property The House at Cannes. The creative force behind both houses is Jason MacLean of MacLean Interiors. (And silly me I only realised today that I had already blogged Jason's work back in 2008.) Once again MacLean juxtaposes the historical with the modern. It's a marriage of incongruities. Bright, modern colour, pattern and shapes sit uncompromisingly in a sun drenched pastel Mediterranean confection of a building. It's edgy, uncompromising and just a little rock star glam. Perfect for a Cannes getaway.

The house at ...

... Hautefage. Take a 19th century farmhouse right in the heart of France. Original beams, old weathered floors, terracotta and thick stone walls. Excited yet? Add design classics and bespoke fittings. Be a little cheeky, a touch unexpected. Throw in amazing food and wine and be prepared to be amazed. Boutique hotels are always something just a little special. Medieval village meets mid century. Lavender, rosemary, dining al fresco, cobblestone streets and rolling fields. It's almost torture not being there. The House at Hautefage.

Alex Profit

French photographer Alex Profit emailed us recently about his new web site tastyhotels.com (an al dente selection of hotels, guests house, self-catering...), but I was too awe-struck with his portfolio to really get into it (...yet - perhaps that's for a future post). His composition is mesmerizing, the spaces are simple and gorgeous and I love the mostly muted colour palettes. P.S. As soon as I finish typing this sentence I am putting that first faucet photo into my bathroom inspiration folder.

Maurice Padovani

Sometimes I take a sharp breath and release it slowly and softly through my pursed lips as I'm web surfing. Sometimes I find a place that is so perfect for me that there are no words. Sometimes my dreams come to life and jump from my computer screen. Sometimes I find an interior designer that has "it". Maurice Padovani has looked inside my mind and teased out a house that ticks all my boxes without ever having met me. There is one problem though. He built it in Marseilles, France not Australia. I'd have thought if he could read my mind without ever having met me he could get that right too. Oh well I'll just have to move to the South of France. Life is tough ;)

P.S. For those who found the OSB (oriented strand board) a little overpowering in a previous post, here it is again only "whitewashed".

Yann Deret

Finish the week just as it was started with beautiful pictures of inspiring rooms. Remember my post on KO Studio? The photographer of those golden delights is Yann Deret and of course I had to share more of his portfolio. There is a certain something, is there not, about his work? Elegant and refrained, simply seductive. Except when it is vibrant and fun! High end or low, moody and modern, white, bright and punchy, Yann Deret captures it all through his lens and presents us with the dream space.
