The house of Casper Faassen

Dutch interior designer Jeroen van Zwetselaar of ZW6 has transformed this 1930s semi-detached house into the perfect home of artist Casper Faassen. Light and shadow, open yet contained, new and old, the design breathes new life into the building. I love the house striped back to its bones, a white box containing the kitchen and dining room slipped into exposed brick shell, love the airy loft bedroom, the hard floors softened by rugs and always the art, the beautiful art.

I have always loved this French manor house by Dutch designer Kate Hume. I had seen glimpses of it but never the whole house. On a recent revisit to the website, much to my delight, I discovered that there were more photos and, well, I certainly wasn't disappointed. It's stunning. The dialogue between old and new, the casual luxury. Kim first featured a room or two back in 2008 and I love how good design stands the test of time and the foibles of fads.

A former office and gambling joint reinvented as a family home. This stunning loft with its industrial materials palette of exposed brick and concrete is warmed by beautiful old wooden doors and floors. Highlights for me? Working on a Saturday

It's like I say time and again. If you have to drag your sorry self into work on a Saturday then it certainly helps if it's somewhere stylish. I have two offices today, both by Amsterdam-based interior design and branding agency Tank. Lingotto uses suspended timber dowels as visual dividers while Doom & Dickson (fabulous name) has a definite retro vibe.

Living small. Tiny house. Buzz words for a fleeting trend vs social movement and way of the future. Wherever you stand on tiny houses there is something we can all agree on. How incredibly stylish and devilishly clever is this compact recreation house near Utrecht in Holland by Roel van Norel and Zecc Architecten? It comes in at 40 m² or about 430 ft². Yes you can shake your head and say it's great for a holiday but you couldn't live there forever. Why not? I know I'd love to give it a try.
