A weathered warehouse

I saw this story on the website of magazine Garden & Gun and while on the subject of magazines, thought it was worthy of sharing as I love a good warehouse conversion. This warehouse is in Greensboro, North Carolina and is now the shop and home of antiques dealer Dan Garrett. His shop is the main level, the second level is half shop storage and half main living space (including kitchen, dining area, a sitting room) and the third level is a wide open living area with a bed tucked into a rear niche. Love the rustic industrial feel and the coziness that is created from Dan's beautiful antiques.

Michelle de la Vega

Michelle de la Vega is a Seattle based visual and installation artist, designer and welder and I love her. I recall her 'mini house' made a tour around blogland back in 2010 when it was featured in the NY Times. I stumbled across her website recently and realized we have never plugged her before so I figured better late than never, especially since she is the queen of industrial/re-purposed design and I LOVE that. First up is a house she remodeled. This is industrial design at it's finest. I have dreams about finding a massive industrial vintage sink like this one. It really is the highlight of this kitchen.

From public loo to private home

We love conversions here at DTI, but they're typically lofts or churches. This time - it's a freaking public washroom! A big thanks to Deb for sending us the link to this formerly derelict underground public lavatory located in south-east London. They were built in 1929, and became the home of architect Laura Clark in 2011 and only cost £65,000. Now it's a pretty cool 1 bedroom flat, with only a bit of tile, a VD sign a couple of mirrors as a reminder of what it once was. Via The Telegraph.

The clock house

Have a look at this cool home for sale in London. It's called The Clock House and is the former yard office for the long defunct Cannon Brewery, what used to be one of East London's largest independent breweries. The brewery fell into disuse about 20 years ago and was converted into a residential home about five years ago. The current owner completed his renovations recently but is now keen to sink his teeth into a new project. The Clock House is a truly unique building - the clock on the tower still works. Now the decor is unfortunately nothing to get excited about but imagine the possibilities! I do love the kitchen - especially the large white painted rectangle on the hardwood floor. It's like a massive washable rug. :) (listed with Currell Residential) 

A modern church conversion

I found this "home" also by DOS Architects and had to blog it as church conversions are one of our specialities. The exterior is so beautiful, and the interior is quite a shocking contrast. I'm not a big fan of the pink and purple colour scheme but WOW - talk about an jaw-dropping open concept, modern home. I adore the flooring - I'm all about light, wide-plank hardwood.
