Typically if Jo and I feature a conversion, it is of a church, or a barn. This time I have one that is a little different. It is a former bank in Detroit - a stunning structure, despite copious amounts of graffiti (so sad). The openness, the vestibule, the windows, and OMG the potential on the roof! I do believe I love a shipping container conversion almost as much as a church conversion. There's something about taking an empty steel box and turning it into a home, a getaway, a backyard retreat, an office, whatever and wherever you want. This one is by Portuguese architectural firm Studio ARTE as part of their Nomad Living project.

It's no secret that Kim and I worship a church conversion. We love to see these old buildings have a second coming. We haven't found very many lately but the wait is over. It's time to sing the praises of my latest stalking target. The little old church is a one bedroom apartment while the church hall out the back has become an open plan home with loads of light and space.
