Carlos Motta

Carlos Motta is an architect and furniture maker from São Paulo, Brasil who is eco-conscious and clearly has a love for wood. WOOD WOOD WOOD. I don't think I've ever seen this much wood in one home. Too much? Maybe. What I wouldn't give to at least one wall in that wood. A great big wall.

Perfectly imperfect

Slick, high end furnishings sit perfectly within an imperfect shell, heightening the luxe through contrast with the rough. But the old room holds firm with its faded grandeur. Is the beauty in the new or in the old or the way they interact? By Brazilian design studio Gisele Taranto Arquitetura.

Apartment 1511

I've got another small apartment for you designed by Brazilian architect Alan Chu and Cristiano Kato (see previously featured apartment here). This one has 2 of my favourite design elements - flat black and raw/rustic looking wood. And they work SO WELL together. The kitchen tile is very odd but it's growing on me - likely because it's such an unexpected element with the rest of the apartment. I could absolutely live here.

Living small - Alan Chu

I found this compact São Paulo apartment designed by Brazilian architect Alan Chu and had to share. It's got micro square footage but Alan made such great use of limited space. A single wall was converted into storage for both the kitchen and living room, which kept the majority of those spaces free for basic furnishings. I think he and the owner like subway tiles. :) The spiral staircase is compact and a gorgeous architectural feature. Overall, a really cool space. (Via Casa Vogue Brasil)

We Design Hostel

I have never had the opportunity to stay in a hostel, but OMG how sweet is this one?! We Hostel Design is located in Vila Mariana, Brazil, and was designed to offer the comfort, style and refinement of a boutique hotel. IT SURE DOES considering it's in a 18th century 450 sq m mansion. Love all the vintage finds throughout, black ceilings  and overall funky vibe. I would absolutely love to stay here!
