Randomness

I grew up having it drilled in my head that you NEVER EVER wear shoes in the house. And I still believe that. Because I don't want the dog shit you just stepped on smeared on my antique kilim. Bring some cute little slippers/flats when I invite you over. Maybe one of these days I'll just stencil it on the floor like above.

Love the setup of these bookcases. The first photo is just a freaking food pantry, yet everything is so well organized you almost have to look twice to realize it's not just some knick knacks on display. And the second photo shows how stacking books in small piles makes it look sculptural and more interesting graphically.

Staircase/bookcase love

Kim and I flit all over the web looking for inspiration. Sometimes we land on a site that the other has already visited. What a bummer! Already posted. Ssssshhhh don't tell anyone but sometimes, very rarely, we post something the other has already featured. Oooops! I loved Isabelle Juy's portfolio when I found L'Atelier d'Archi except Kim had beat me to it (here). Then I saw the staircase. Love at first sight and not in the original post. Hello lover! You're going up on the blog. Inspiration for the stairs in my now not quite so new old house. Mine is nowhere near as grand as this but oh how I lust after the Deborah Bowness wallpaper. The drama, the whimsy, the fun.

The landing library

A new kitchen and a staircase to the next floor. A simple design request with a fabulous outcome. Melbourne based Venn Architects believe space is what you make it. Their clever use of the transition up the staircase as a library is elegant and functional with a wonderful sense of space and light. No longer a kitchen diner. Perhaps a kitchen library?

My inspiration stash - round 2

For years this has been and continues to be my favourite backyard of all time. I am determined to have this setup one day. EXACTLY as in the photo but with different chairs. And cats roaming instead of a dog. (via Dwell)

I can't get this out of my head either. It is the definition of an outdoor room. Simple yet perfect. (via Kennedy Nolan Architects)

I used to be sold on the idea of having a dining space that doubled as a library, but now I am even more smitten with book storage in hallways. (via The Design Files)

Cutest bathroom design. I need this in my life. (via Incorporated)

The Hedgehog's nest

This dark and moody apartment is in Rio de Janeiro may well be the nest of that spiny creature deep within the earth but no, instead it is the creation of Brazilian architectural firm Ouriço (Portuguese for hedgehog). Outside it may be bright and sunny and tropical but inside it is calm and cocooning with graphic punches and vintage finds. Love the hero wall of books, the industrial lights and the warmth of the wood. Like a den, a club, a nest.
