Bright and mid-century - a winning combination! Brio Interior Design transformed this young globe trotting couple's first house together from a dated fixer-upper to a bright, open and modern mid-century home. Located in Bellevue, WA, the 1960's house came with drab finishes and an awkward kitchen layout with two flanking dining rooms. Brio reworked the floor plan eliminating walls and extending the kitchen into one of the dining spaces. The result is an airy, expansive layout that seamlessly connects the living room, kitchen, and dining room. All new finishes were selected and combined with family heirloom pieces such as the freshly re-upholstered mid-century dining set and grandma's stunning onyx cocktail table. Paired with art and textiles from travels abroad and the husband's time in the Peace Corps, the living space feels collected yet paired down, leaving room for the couple to further leave their imprint on the home in the years to come. The neutral palette combined with warm accents like brass, wood and global textiles results in a fresh, inviting, well traveled space. Photos: Haris Kenjar
