Tropical, dark and colourful in a British townhouse

Here is another eclectic home by Black Parrots Studio but this time it is mid-century mixed with 70's tropical!!! The theme becomes much more subtle beyond this crazy cool dining room (that plant/leaf wallpaper looks like it has been there for years) but all of the spaces are fun and dramatic whether in bright or dark colours.

Working on a Saturday

Is it really working if your job is at an award winning winery? I would love to be an employee at the Beresford Cellar Door in Australia's McLaren Vale. Actually I lie. I would love to be a visitor at the Beresford Cellar Door. Can I try the 2013 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon? Design by Enoki.

Parisian modern in San Francisco

I love absolutely everything about this home in Noe Valley designed by Regan Baker. The bold, large photography art, the subtle moldings in the dining and living rooms (it just hit me that maybe this is what my dining room is missing!!), the midcentury furnishings, the brightness, bits of drama with colour, wallpaper or black walls. Yep, I'll take it all!! Photos: Suzanna Scott

Monastic modern by Ty Larkins

This beautiful home designed by Ty Larkins is glorious in all its shades of white with black and neutral accents. Earthy yet modern. Monastic modern as Ty calls it. The basic DNA of this "Belgium style" embraces spareness and natural light, judiciously excludes superfluous details, but retains the use of honest yet substantial building materials, some re-salvaged, seemingly to provide warmth, age and patina but in the context of a clean, pared down shell, a very careful balancing act to say the least. In an effort to balance our all of the newness of this newly constructed home and suggest patina and history, enormous 200-year old plus re-salvaged beams were installed on the 14' tall ceilings in the family room and lightly white-washed to slightly modernize their inherent rusticity.

Little Black Shack

Yesterday I stalked a multi-million dollar house on Sydney's Pittwater, all black and glass and steel. It was fabulous no doubt but I'll let you into a secret. I'm a simple girl who likes simple things, beautiful, simple things I admit. If I had the choice between spending the weekend in yesterday's mansion or today's fibro shack I think I'd choose this Little Black Shack. Simple. I mean look at that view!
