When I think of summer I start dreaming about cottages and cabins and beach houses, and this summer retreat in Sag Harbour, New York is a little gem and a great place to spend warm summer weekends. Designed by Elizabeth Cooper, its nautical vibe with blues, stripes, pops of red and shiplap works so well in this environment. And those bleached wood floors have me swooning. Thursday - the sad forgotten sister of Friday. No one ever yells "Thank God it's Thursday". No one ever counts down the last few hours until after work drinks or the freedom of the weekend. Thursday is a plod-along day, a "let's get it over so we can go to sleep and yell TGIF the next morning" sort of day. So here is my Thursday gift to you, a virtual escape to brighten up the stolid workaday. Tamarind Beach at Paradise Cove, a compound of three houses (for vacation rental) in the tropical paradise of Vanuatu. A sophisticated taste of island life steps from crystal blue waters and coral reefs. This is one virtual getaway I wish I could make in real life.
Mondays are all about wondering where the weekend went, all about pressing the snooze button over and over until you're late, all about surreptitiously sipping on a takeaway coffee cup on the train to work. Mondays are all about dreaming of endless days at the seaside, of the perfect beach house. Blue and white and washed out neutrals, rattan and driftwood and sand and green glass. Mondays are about working for the man so that maybe one day your dream house will look just like this one by Blackband Design.

We may not be able to own it but we can escape the everyday rat race and relax in this little piece of paradise on Pittwater in Sydney's Palm Beach. Neutral tones with accents of blue and grey and weathered wood give this Corona del Mar, California home a beachy vibe. Such a soothing atmosphere, complete with cozy furnishings and lots of patterns for visual interest.
