Real estate stalking

Stalking again, this time in the leafy, exclusive and oh so expensive suburb of Toorak, Melbourne. Wonderful white voids cut with panes of glass provide drama. Inside blurs with out while water weaves its way where one least expects it. Hate to have to clean the glass but love the idea of opening walls and cut out windows.

Confection perfection

Finished at last! Over the past few months we have been following the progress of a Marie Antoinette inspired confection of a hair salon designed by Scott Weston .... from intricate scale model through mock up and manufacture. Now Scott has sent us photos of the finished salon.

“As promised here are some images taken at practical completion with my builder of the hair salon. Everyone from builder, sub-contractor to client just thinks it looks like the model & are all very proud. We built it in record time 6 weeks from shell to beautifully built joinery fitments. Our client's chic & quirky french style salon opens this Monday 22nd September 2008 at the IVY.”

Stunning! Stunning! Stunning!

Heavenly home

Sorry couldn't resist the pun. If you've been reading Desire to Inspire for a while you'll know that I have a thing for church conversions. Some have been fabulous, some not quite. This one though .... oh be still my beating heart. Spatial problems have been solved by a raised floor for open plan living. Bedrooms which need to be private and cocooned are contained underneath. A series of voids, glass railings and glass walls open the space and celebrate the soaring ceilings. A separate wing reached via a walkway and deck breaks out of the space and allows the outside in.

John Paul Urizar

What's our mantra when it comes to amazing photographers? Lighting, lighting, lighting. For Australian photographer John Paul Urizar his use of beautiful lighting is a perfect counterfoil to his simplistic approach to what he captures through his lens. I've included tearsheets here and some of his personal work. (LOVE those b&w shots!) Whatever you do, don't miss the food .... yum!

Notebook

Like Kim I've been flicking through the pages of magazines. My hunting spot is the newsagent just round the corner from my day job. Yesterday I was drawn to Notebook, an Aussie magazine that coves life, home, beauty and food. It's been a while since I picked one up and was really surprised. Oh no another magazine to add to my ever growing list! They have a great website. This is just one of the house galleries that caught my eye. If you'd like a sneak peek inside this month's issue just click here.
