Stalking by the bay

Imagine having this as your view everyday. Imagine a lovely bright white home with vintage finds and warm wood. Imagine a casual Australian beach lifestyle. Then walk down the long wooden stairs to the boathouse and realise just how lucky you are to live here. And if you have enough energy then pour yourself a white wine and wander down to the end of your jetty. Life would be so tough if this was your home. The property is for sale in Sorrento, Victoria. Clare Cousins Architects

Wonderful modern homes designed by Melbourne architectural and interior design studio Clare Cousins Architects. I love the use of unusual materials and colour particularly the turquoise colour blocking. These are great examples of integration of internal spaces with the outdoors, so important in climates like Australia's. It's all to do with sympathetic orientation, materials and building design. No McMansions here, just stylish contemporary dwellings that are not only comfortable family homes but break out of the cookie cutter mentality. I've included some of their commercial work too. Such clever ideas, the shelves, the simple paper lanterns.

I want this bathroom!

I was real estate stalking .... again, when I came across this great idea for a bathroom vanity. Find yourself an interesting deco dresser, remove the mirror (better still find one without - it will be so much cheaper), install the plumbing and then you'll have the perfect one off vanity for your very understated red bathroom. I've included a couple more photos just to give you a feel of the warehouse this bathroom is in. Unfortunately not enough fabulous photos to satisfy my curiosity. One question though. Why don't people clean before the real estate photos? The dirty marks on the doors are driving me crazy and the soap scum on the red tiles? It must go :)

Trend alert ... yellow Ferrari in living room

Talk about home styling for real estate photo shoots. Hire in beautiful furniture or seriously declutter your own - check! Hang some dresses in the walk-in dressing room to show you have taste and style (but a VERY limited wardrobe) - check! Park the yellow Ferrari in the glass garage - check! I think this is a definite decorating trend. Here in Australia where house prices are seriously over-inflated the Ferrari is definitely cheaper than this warehouse conversion.

Hahahaha! I knew I'd get that car wrong. I squinted so long at the photos and swore I saw a rearing stallion but alas, as anonymous so kindly pointed out, it is a Lamborghini Gallardo and a bull! I really should change the title to "Trend alert ... yellow phallic symbol on wheels in living room" :)
