Latest from Brett Mickan

I've long admired interior designer Brett Mickan's work. His use of colour, the way he explores pattern. It's contemporary with a vintage vernacular. Never stiff, always stylish with a sense of humour. Definitely one of my favourite Australian designers.

Ivy and stone

It might be winter in my part of the world but that didn't stop me pottering around the garden on the weekend. Pruning and raking, simple hard landscaping and planning for the summer to come. Dreaming of courtyard gardens with sandstone paving and ivy growing up walls, firepit and crunchy gravel, sun traps and sunken ponds. Dreaming of a garden like this one in South Yarra, Melbourne by Kate Seddon Landscape Design.

Stalking leftovers

Hello my name is Jo and I'm a real estate addict. I stalk listings hoping to find the perfect property I can't afford anyway. Oh well a girl can dream. There is one problem though. I'm fussy. Not quite right, love the bones but ditch the furniture, bad photos, I need more photos please! Can't quite put my finger on it listings with something that has me nodding "yes". This week I've found my usual old houses with expansive extensions, an artist's house, a mid century home that needs a new owner and some TLC, houses for sale and those already sold. Click on the photos to go to the listings. Via Domain and realestate.com.au.

Bathing beauty

It's a such lovely bathroom. The stone tiles, the freestanding bath, that shower. But it's the blue vanity that packs the design punch. Simple yet stylish. By Sydney-based Rhys Jones Interior Architecture

Stalking a trophy home

I'm stalking Belhaven, one of Sydney's trophy estates. High on a ridge in the exclusive suburb of Bellevue Hill, it is home to Westfield executive and Brambles chairman Stephen Johns, his wife Michele Bender and their vast art collection. (Their neighbours are media mogul Lachlan Murdoch and his wife Sarah.) I'm not bothering with the listing's pictures. They do not do the home justice. The video does. This is how the other half lives unpretentiously in Australia. The home is expected to fetch $25 to $27 million. Link here while it lasts
