Stalking a dichotomy

Like night and day. Black and white. Inside and out. Front and back. Old and new. Victorian era house and modern extension for sale in Richmond, Melbourne. The dark moody spaces appeal while I think it may be the lighting that leaves me a little cold in the open plan kitchen and family room. Do you see the must have "I've made it!" Australian house accessory? It's the outdoor kitchen. We're crazy for them here. Link here while it lasts.

As a property finder I see an incredible number of properties in London and this one breaks my heart... they have ripped its soul out and expensively blandified it. I'm sorry but I really don't like it one little bit. It has absolutely no character. Property developpers you have to stop this massacre!

Absolutely perfection! I adore the contrast between the old exterior character and new modern pulsating heart of this home. Every detail has been expertly staged with stunning vision. I would move in and not change a single thing other than fill the office bookcase with books and collections.
I'm gonna have to disagree with the first 2 lovely ladies. I live in London and absolutely love the character of the city, but there is still a place for these gorgeous sleek clean lines.

I love the inside/outside rooms and it is a wonderful use of space, but the decor is strangely impersonal and bland - maybe styled for sale, let's be charitable.
Poor old house. A little cottage intended for workers has been stripped and bleached and implanted and botoxed into a big box for millionaires. All of its quaint charm has been obliterated.
Seriously, what can one say about a house that has had its back yard not merely paved over, but designer tiled over?
If you look at the floor plan the open space is basically part car parking area, part large tiled expanse of nothingness - I think thats the problem - they have overdone the indoor/outdoor space and it ends up like a vacuum - it gives it the warmth of lobby in an office building. However I think all the individual elements are very funky and cool - it just doesn't work as a home.
I agree wholeheartedly that there is room for sleek lines in London. What I am more critical of is the total lack of integrity with the style and character of the buiding. I love modernist and contempory architecture and even daring refurbishments. However there is a very bland makeover style that is applied to every kind of building, a sort of mock boutique hotel style that seems to be the taste of many property developpers. To this is prime example of that non style.
This would be lovely in London..... But it's in Melbourne!
I absolutely love this house...The front door is just amazing !
I have to agree with the critics. All character has been gutted to make way for an interior that looks more like the office of an aspirational investment banker. Too much money, too little taste.
Does anyone know what bath that is?
