Belgian minimalism

Continuing my fascination with minimalist homes around the world. A Belgian mansion style house that has seen better days, lost some of its character with one too many renovations. The old exterior is kept but at the back the minimalist magic begins. The renovation was about aligning and subtracting. Consolidating and eliminating. It's black but it's white. It has historical references but modern credentials. It's about light and space and a new life. It's House J & M by Bruno Vanbesien.

I always think of Belgian minimalism as the latin cousin of German minimalism .. ever so slightly warmer but equally functional and impresive!

I think minimalism is getting old and lame very quickly. With it's disregard to practicality and obsession with perfectionism in form, it has become very similar to (and just as pretentious as) the excessive surface decorations it replaced, totally missing the simplicity it originally aimed at in it's infancy. It's the new way to have your environment say "man, am I a pretentious grease-ball, or what!" Just look at that bathroom! That dark gray facade is really charming, too!

What an incredible find - I love the simplicity of the architecture and fittings. The transition from the traditional architectural elements to the minimal contemporary ones is perfectly executed.
As always, thanks for sharing!!
