Kim, in the 2nd photo can you tell if only one wall is painted black? We're trying to decide if we should paint one wall in our dining room a dramatic colour. We love our white walls with colorful art in our BIG dining room but something seems missing.

Oh if I didn't live in a rented apartment, I'd paint some walls the darkest purest black. In the meantime, I convince my relatives and friends to do so in their houses. They're all scared, but once they see it, they just love it.

Using black is the easiest way to make a room feel classy! [:

Deborah, it's probably only the one wall. You should totally have fun with paint on a wall in your dining room (or wallpaper? forest mural? ;) )

LOVE it!

I'm so glad that you were craving for black so all these photographs got shared!!
Thanks for a great blog! Have been a dedicated follower for years.

Question: Does a black-painted room really look smaller than a white/light-painted room? I love the look of black walls but have a studio apartment - the main space about 6 m X 10 m. The walls are just slightly off-white now, I have a very large framed mirror on an end wall and the ceilings are high. Wondering if black would be too cave-like...

I think painting an entire studio apt may be a little much - you could always try one wall, see how that flies and then paint the rest if you think it could work.

Wow im in love with all these photographs! Gorgeous accents against the black walls!

The black wall looks like the background of a canvas for painting..to see the beautiful pieces of furniture better. So maybe in a rather mundane home, it may not work?

Does that craving for black extend to the african-american persuasion?

LOL...

Thought I'd inject that...

There is a particular wall in my living room which I've been wanting to paint black for some time. This post is making me think it needs to become a reality. I think it will look marvelous. Great post!

Very formal, and the high-gloss is high-class.

I have black walls in both my kitchen and living room. I absolutely love the look. I was worried about the color making the walls close in but really the space stays much more open than you'd think. It also helps if you have chunky white moldings and trim. Thanks for posting!

I had a black powder room in my last house and I loved it! Now I'm considering it for my sitting room/library. Thanks for the great pictures!
