Salvinia

I am stricken, yes stricken, with love for this 18th century half-timber house hidden in the dunes and marshes of the Vistula River down on the Baltic Sea coast of Poland. 3 apartments contained within an historic building. Old and new, history and the stylishly comfortable here and now. I just can't come up with the right words to describe this house. Nothing seems worthy enough. I speechless (or should I say rambling). I wouldn't want to leave this holiday lodge.  Salvinia Lodge. That's the name of my new home. I'll be renting it forever and I'll expect you to join me soon. Tomorrow I'll introduce you to the architects.

Piękne!!! Galeria urzekająca. Cieszę się, że takie miejsca można spotkać w Polsce. Oby było ich więcej.

Okay, now I have been following this blog for YEARS...and in those years I have seen some things that I have absolutely adored (pretty much daily), but this...THIS is my freaking dream house. Seriously. This is not house lust, this is total and complete house soulmateism! Okay, and a little lust :)

Thanks for sharing Jo!!!

Wow, this house is about an 1 hour drive away from the city I live in... And I needed an Australian blog to help me discover it :-)

Love it! One of my biggest pet peeves is when the insides of historic homes have been stripped of their original character. Not that I don't like modern interiors, they just need to fit the style of the exterior. I was really disappointed by the Ikea-ey look of the inside of the 300 year old swiss home a couple days ago: http://www.desiretoinspire.net/blog/2011/4/4/achingly-beautiful.html

This just leaves me scratching my head. Looks like the first floor has all slate flooring. Sorry but, blech! Slate? The exterior, and the bones of the house are amazing, but the decor leaves me non-plussed. It feels so staged and self consciously unobtrusive. Seems like a good place to go to recover from a trauma. Am I the only one confused by this?

My homeland... :) This is beautiful.
Did you see the front door in the first image?? I love it.
I love the way you walk through the timber structure when you change levels - it's quite incredible.
And that painted door - amazing.
One thing I don't like is the staggered wood slats in the later pictures; they seem the wrong scale compared to the huge timber frame.

It's as if my computer screen has smell-0-vision. I can smell all of that deep rich wood. Such beautiful construction and photography!!!

Sergey - I don't think that comment was either necessary or appropriate. There are other forums in which to discuss politics and history - this is not one of such forums.

I agree wc|gs, so I'm deleting Sergey's comment. Totally inappropriate.
