Life is too short for dull decor. Or so the duo behind Empirical Style, Steve and Helena Trupp believe. Take a look at their Sydney apartment. Too cool for school! Filing cabinet and locker storage, train station memorabilia, X-rays in the kitchen, drawers on the walls, leather chesterfields, toucans, vintage posters and porcelain birds complete with painted droppings. Quirky to the max and full of fun. If you click over to the website Aussie readers may just recognise Steve as one of the final three designers on the recently aired Top Design.
P.S. While you are on the site check out the online shop. Vintage style Edison light bulbs Aussie readers? Yes please. Please forgive me. As much as I want to embrace CFLs I go weak at the knees for a good old Edison. CFLs are sooooooo ugly.

What a fun place! That King's Cross Station sign really makes that kitchen come alive. Has the feeling of a depot with the filing cabinets.
Always love the old wood floors and the huge mirror in the living space adds depth.

Really enjoyed this - such an eclectic mix of things. I also love to see unexpected use of items, and this place is chock full of that.

Loved how unique this place is and seeing places where their owners don't take decorating so seriously. I am saving this photo because I loved the illusion of the floating bookshelves next to that huge mirror! Fantastic inspiration.
Really love this place, it is SO my style! I always love those contemporary chic and austere places in theory, but I would rather live in a place like this because it's stylish and warm. Feels like I could actually live there without feeling like my presence is going to ruin it!
