Suze's ode to Jonathan Adler
Suze Yalof Schwartz of the blog Dwellers Without Decorators had emailed us a while back looking for curtain inspiration. She emailed again to share with us her fabulous newly renovated New York apartment and OMG did I ever have to share it with you all. It's gorgeous and I love every square inch of it. Her home is very Jonathan Adler-esque (she even met him and told him so!). Here are some photos of her living room which she turned into a combined living/dining space (so she could use the dining room as an office/den). The architecture of this apartment is phenomenal and must have been so exciting to work with. (Decent existing architecture is so hard to find). I am smitten with the wall colour, the trim detail she added to the walls, her Jonathan Adler sofa, her dining chairs...
First, a couple before photos:
And voilà, the after, photographed by Dan Hallman (see more photos of this space and a few other spaces in Suze's home after the jump).
Last week Suze began posting a room from her newly revamped apartment each day on her blog - so I had to include a few photos from some of the other spaces because each one is fabulous!

Wow. I adore this ode and space. It is so roomy, so much possiblity
LOVE that ceiling fan with the drum shade. Fabulous.
It's a lovely room but it looks strangely almost identical to a room Domino Magazine featured on it's first or second issue - except that room was done by a designer. Items identical include: the two green living room chairs, the wall paint color and trim, the dining room table, the dining room chairs, the blue vases, the two etageres flanking the fireplace, the drum light shade, etc. Kind of strange to copy almost everything from someone else's design.
this space is so spunky; it's hard to believe it's a reader's home! then again you ladies have a seriously stylish following. i was so excited to see the jonathan adler influence in her home — i just landed an internship there and couldn't be more thrilled!
The fact that it looks so much like that Domino room was my first thought too. I'm pretty sure that is because it's the same apartment and the same homeowner.
So fresh and absolutely lovely. I swoon over navy blue sofas (and this one is to-die-for). Together with the green chairs, it's stunning. Everything about this place is perfect. Great post! xoxo
Good eye folks. Suze's previous apartment was featured in the second issue of Domino (much of this furniture was from there).
Hi It''s me Suze - The comment about Domino is funny because it actually was my apartment from Domino Sept 2005. - I moved last summer to a space 8 flights up in the same building. I had met the designer Matthew Suddock of M designs after seeing his pieces in a restaurant and then wanting them for my own apartment. I will never part with the green chairs - they make me so happy! Sadly, I had to do the new place with out a Matthew but it inspired my blog so I am so grateful. Hope you like. Suze
Wow, just wow! The place is beautiful The curved french doors are to die for and the molding detail is just beyond. It make me what to totally redecorate!
I hate curtains.
Call me a minimalist, but windows are a work of art on their own.
The ultimate painting, a glimpse to the outside realm.
Beautiful, fresh and well executed for sure! She did a lot right in this space. Excellent sense of space planning, staging and color! I'm envious of anyone who has such a clear vision and executes it! Bravo! However,it is a bit "one note" and bit too trendy for me personally...greek key patterns, white lacquer furniture, wall panels? Its a lot of the same feel, over and over again. I would personally suggest some variety to balance out the look. For example, the wood dining table is an excellent breath of fresh air..a place for the eye to rest from all the slick furniture, sharp colors, pattern and bright whites! For Suze, she may relish in getting tired of her decor, allowing her the opportunity to redecorate!...but for a less experienced decorator, or someone on a budget - longevity is an issue. If you tire of this look, so much would have to be changed. This is just my reaction to the space...either way she did a great job transforming a dreary pad! Nice work Suze.
This apartment had fabulous bones but Suze obviously has flair.
Jealous. Don't love the fan trying to hide atop the drum pendant, but I guess that's more out of necessity? Everything else is awesome, looks great!!
This space is a total dream to me. Love it. Thanks for posting.
Good job! Suze, wanna come to my house? Please?
I love the ceiling fan/drum shade! I was just thinking I needed to get rid of my ceiling fan because it doesn't look so nice, but having it is so useful! Where can I find the one you used, or did you retrofit a drum shade onto a ceiling fan? Thanks!
I never post a comment, but I had to chime in to say this place is fabulous. I love how light and airy it looks. It's comfortable and elegant at the same time.
ditto with Vy....I would love to hear more about the ceiling fan!
stunning!
The Ceiling drum was so easy. “Ira at 516-384-2487″ Ira is based in Florida, but ships all over the US. Basically, you unscrew the “hub” from the ceiling fan (he said it is as simple as removing three screws) and send it to him. He’ll manufacturer the shade and attach to the hub and send it back. The price for this shade is surprisingly affordable. And, he offers a number of vinyl backed linen options. The result is a beautiful soft light. for more info on the process check out this blog post http://www.maddiegdesigns.com/chic-idea-for-the-fan-with-lights/
Stunning! Jonathan Adler's influence in any home makes for a whimsical and inviting space- in other words- PERFECTION.
so beautiful!
love the tall white bookcases...looking to do something similir in my master bedroom but trying to avoid having something custom fabricated....would you share where you purchase or is it antique or custom??
thanks!
I love the long skinny bench in the coat room. Source/materials?
