Kim's temporary bathroom redo

I mentionned here on DTI a while ago that I was working on another home project but I didn't give away too many details. I FINALLY finished and now it's time to share.

I had grown VERY tired of the ugliness of my main bathroom. One day I hope to gut the space and completely redo every piece of it but in the meantime the ugliness was getting on my last nerve. And I needed a project because I just wasn't busy enough. (HA). So here are a couple photos of the bathroom before I tackled it - and this is how it had been since I bought the home more than two years ago.

Trust me, it was even worse in person. The linoleum floor was scratched to sh*t, and so dirty and stained it was impossible to clean. The main light fixture, medicine cabinet, towel bar, light switch plate, outlet plate, toilet paper holder were ALL made of nasty wood. SO GROSS. I'm pretty sure the cabinet over the toilet was hung upside down. The faucet was probably the cheapest one you could buy and was missing a piece on the front to cover the screw. The walls were white and BORING. There's a small window to the left of the toilet that had bright green plastic blinds hanging. There's a second light fixture on the wall opposite the sink that had a nasty 80s vibe. The whole space was just awful. Until I can gut the room, I decided to do a cheap makeover. Some leftover paint, new inexpensive faucet and lighting, addition of a chair rail, cheap lino peel and stick tiles, some items brought in from other spaces around my house to decorate and VOILA, a temporary fix to keep me from losing my mind.

Many more photos to follow.....

holy MAN Kim that is INCREDIBLE. You've inspired me to do something about my own hideous bathroom.

Awesome! Hard to believe that cheap end Home Depot cabinet/sink could end up looking that good!!!

So interesting that you decided on black floors.....it looks great and you're quite the RISK TAKER! I like the division between the white & black paint on the wall as well! :) Super job....

looks amazing! what's the source for your light fixtures?

All I can say is wow. If I could do half of this for a temporary bathroom makeover in my own house, mine would be looking great!

LOVE IT!!!!! Wow, I would have never thought black in a bathroom but it looks amazing! I am renovating my bathroom soon and I might have to honestly consider black as a color option. Such a great job, thanks for sharing!

Where did you get that shower curtain and is it available in the reverse? My bathroom is also black and white, but my other color is light blue (with some greens and yellows)

I rather like the before shower curtain - where did you get that one? I think it would work well in my bathroom. Thanks in advance!

I too have to come up with some temporary solutions until we can gut and plumb. Good job.

Wow, just gorgeous! But I couldn't help noticing that this is one makeover photoshoot that has no cats in it. I guess they and the black floor won't get along very well. Great job!

I agree with other posts. This is amazing and I would absolutely encourage you to keep it permanently. I've been thinking and planning a bathroom perk up but it's taking me so long to get everything together for the "ideal"bathroom. Maybe I'll take this as inspiration and start out today!!

The light fixture over the sink was from Home Depot ($70) and the one on the opposite side was about $25 and was from either Home Depot or Lowes.

The tree shower curtain was from a local store called Zone Maison but Home Outfitters sells the same one now, as does Urban Outfitters. The new shower curtain was $39 from Home Outfitters.

Isaspacey, I should have at least stuck Mimin, the black cat, in there for a shot or 2. Thing is I was trying desperately to keep fur off the floor while I was taking pics because every single thing shows. Perhaps I'll throw them all in the bathroom and snap a pic just for you. :)

This so inspiring!! Can you give a source for the curtains and rod for the window? And the white wicker stools? I'm really inspired to do something similar to our main bath, but am shy about mixing patterns so love knowing the sources for these types of things when people pull it together so beatifully!!

The curtains in the window are a piece of fabric from Ikea - I "hemmed" it using that iron-on sticky tape since I have no clue how to sew. The rod was the cheapest little thing I could find at Home Depot (I bought the clips at Home Depot too). It was white with gold ends, so I spray painted it and the hooks black. The "stool" is a black wastebasket and I found it at a vintage shop for $10. I spray painted it white and turned it upside down as a table.

Wow! That is one great temporary fix, the best I've seen! Good work, it looks fantastic!

If this is the "temporary" bathroom, I can't wait to see what you do when you the gut the room. Bravo!

BEAUTIFUL!

(And please tell me that you didn't throw out that gorgeous shower curtain and that I can have it...?)

Wow, I couldn't be more impressed. Wonderful, wonderful job. Black, white and yellow. Right on trend. But, not too matchy, matchy. Money well spent!

Wow! You Shocked it... Lovin' the hooks love to know more about them...
