another yummy dinner experience

Last night my husband and I went to dinner again at the Back Lane Café. This is definitively one of my favourite restaurants here in Ottawa and it's only a few minutes by car from our house. The decor left me smitten once again and as we learned the first time, we sat in the best seats - at the bar. We chatted it up with bartender Alex and had a great time. I of course snapped some photos (unfortunately only with my iPhone) so I thought I'd share again (post from my first visit here).

Jeff had his favourite drink that he came up with the last time we were there - mango spritzer with a shot of rye.

I had the Melanzana pizza with grilled spices eggplant, tomato, fior di latte, ricotta and toasted walnuts. (YUM!)

My husband had the same as last time - wood fired 12 oz new york steak with cauliflower gratin and saratoga chips.

For dessert I had raspberry-rhubarb cheesecake with raspberry coulis and white chocolate-run drizzle.

My husband went with something chocolatey as always - chocolate truffle trio: rum, honey and thai chili.

Laugh until you cry

Heather of dooce.com linked to this article in the Huffington Post by comedian Dave Hill and I tried reading some of it to my husband who wondered why I was howling with laughter...and could not read it all because of the tears streaming down my face. I got stuck on this line: "Why don't the Nabisco people all pile into a van, drive over to my house, and fuck me in the face while they are at it?" I absolutely could not continue reading aloud. It was THAT GOOD.

A dreamy townhome

Elaine at Style at Home mag sent along their Spring 2012 Trend report that mentioned floral prints, coloured glass (love!) and Pantone's colour of the year - orange. I had every intention of blogging these trends until I noticed some photos from their March 2012 issue of a feature on a TO-DIE-FOR townhome in downtown Toronto. Believe it or not this was purchased pre-construction and it seems the builder gave them LOTS of elbow room to do it up to their own style. WOW. Who knew? I lived in a townhome once in the 'burbs. It was AWFUL. But I digress.... (Photos: Michael Graydon, Design: Croma Design)

Pigeon Atelier

I wanted to share a shop with you all that belongs to Maryse of Montreal. She currently sells vintage items on her online shop Pigeon Atelier and also on Etsy. She is an amazing photographer which helps makes her shop irresistible as she has scored some great stuff and captures it beautifully. She is looking to open a workshop in the future as she specializes in antique furniture restoration and then eventually wants to open a shop in Montreal. I can't wait to see her restoration projects! In the meantime, check out some of my favourite pieces from her shop (I think a couple are already sold).
