A birthday dinner

Yesterday was my husband's birthday, so we went to dinner at a restaurant I've been wanting to try for ages - The Wellington Gastropub. My co-worker Erik raves about this place and my parents were there recently and also had lots of good things to say. It was fantastic! The vibe is casual which I prefer, the service was great and the food was to die for. (See what I wore here).

Loved the fairly simple and short menu.

I had a couple glasses of Malbec. One of my favourite reds.

Jeff had a double rye and ginger, and tried an IPA beer (I think it was Muskoka 'Mad Tom'). It was the oddest tasting beer I've ever tried. Very "perfumey" if that makes sense. After the initial shock of the taste I think I actually really liked it. I don't think I would have it with food though as I found it very overpowering.

Jeff's starter - beet, frisée and fig salad.

My starter - roasted sunchoke soup with chipotle-lime sour cream and vanilla oil.

Jeff's main - Angus reserve ribeye with cheddar-mustard mash, mushrooms and béarnaise sauce.

My main - sea scallops with cauliflower purée, chile bok choi and warm smoked ham vinaigrette.

Jeff's dessert - milk chocolate pot de creme

My dessert - 3 scoops of ice cream (peanut butter, cinammon, and apple crisp) with a shortbread cookie. (soooooo good)

Looks delicious. A close friend is actually one of the brewer's of the Mad Tom IPA at the Muskoka Brewery in Bracebridge where I'm originally from. Glad to see you liked it. It's definitely strong and an acquired taste - even for beer drinkers. Thanks for sharing all the photos from your dinner out.

@Emily - COOL! I'm thinking it would be the perfect beer to bring to my sister's cottage this summer. :-)
