My favourite Ottawa shops for goodies for the home

So here it is folks - the list I get asked about often enough that I thought I'd just stick it on the blog. Below are my favourite home decor stores, flea markets, online shops etc. etc. that are located here in Ottawa. I'm likely forgetting some (although believe me, there aren't that many) so I'll add when I think of them or when I find new shops. Enjoy!
Alteriors - high end modern furnishings from names you all know and love
Architectural Antique Lighting - so much vintage lighting it's ridiculous
Blueprint Home - contemporary furnishings, lighting, bedding...awesomeness
Champagne dit Lambert warehouse - CDL is an expensive antique shop but they have a warehouse in the basement with lots of MCM and random well priced vintage goodness. Teak credenzas are their specialty.
Funky Furniture - they just opened their shop and I came out with a black leather Eames shell side chair. All MCM, all the time.
Goods - handmade goods of all kinds by small producing local artisans and around North America
Green Light District - super nice owners, and even nicer contemporary furnishings and accessories from countries afar. I have my eye on the most heavenly lounge chair you can imagine. I'm slightly obsessed with this shop. (***Recently moved shop to Toronto)
Heavens to Betsy - lots of jewelry, bags, and more importantly, knick knacks! I always stop here on my walk home after getting my hair did.
Lee Valley - best place for hardware besides Ikea and Anthropologie
The Modern Shop- Modern lighting and furnishings from all my favourite brands. Bring something to wipe up your drool.
Ottawa Antique Market - alot of too pricey antiques but there's a great MCM seller in there as well as a kilim dealer - it's where I got the large one under my dining table.
Structube - contemporary and modern furnishings. Decent prices.
Urban Barn - contemporary furnishings. Decent prices.
White Monkey - vintage goodies, mostly art deco
Zone Maison - this has been my favourite place for modern knick knacks for years. They carry awesome lighting and a bit of furniture too.
Third World Bazaar
Websites:
Modern Karibou - based here in Ottawa
The GR Shop - not based in Ottawa but it is Canadian - from Victoria B.C. They carry just about every decent piece of any MCM designer. Free shipping in Canada, and they're quick and send lots of emails giving the shipping status. Love these guys. I have so far bought a Panton S chair, an Eames Hang-It-All and 2 Tizio lamps from this site.

Great post! Your blog is super. I was wondering what you think about the EQ3 store? We are looking at the porter sectional and it seems to be of decent quality but would love to hear if anyone has any experience with their products.
Have a great Sunday!
I once had an EQ3 sofa and after about a year the cushions were totally "deflated" and you could feel the sofa frame under your butt. But my sister has one in her basement den and it is well used (2-3 yrs old now I think) and I think it's still in good shape. Seems to be hit and miss.
I love the guy at the Antiques Market... he always has new stuff and he's pretty reasonably priced, too! Not so much for some of the other MCM dealers in town.. some of whom (I find through Kjiji obssession) recycle Kijiji buys offered for 5X the price :( Boo!
That being said there are a few on your list I haven't heard of so now my weekends have a purpose again!!
Thanks for this great list, Kim! And... Congratulations : )
Bookmarked SO hard.
Wow! Thanks so much for the recommendation and your very kind words, Kim. Deborah, Green Light District Design
Fantastic, Kim - you've made my day!
Thanks Rosy!
Deborah, how could I not include your shop? :-)
Here's another great store in Ottawa - Found Design
If I'm not mistaken the Found Design location became Modern Light and the furniture moved to Funky Furniture.
Hello Kim! I'm silent reader of your blog but this time I really need your guidance! I'm decorating my new appartment and would like to know where I can find Greek key patterned rug in Ottawa? Your help will be much appreciated,
Joya.
Joya, I don't really know...except I did notice The Modern Shop sells Jonathan Adler greek key rugs (awfully pricey though). I'd have a looksie at a couple Homesense locations in case they have any. And I just spotted this one at Structube which is pretty cool (although not greek key).
Brilliant post,Good thing that yous share suggestions on which you already prove the the products have quality and proven that have durability which our criteria in buying home products.
Hey Guys, I just opened a new furniture store in Ottawa. Zuffa Home at 81 Montreal Rd!!
Or Check us online at ZuffaHome.com
Thanks!! :)
Just to let you know : I wouldn't shop at Funky Furniture. He boosts up the prices and he has shady practices. For instance, my friend buys furniture for her house and she sells back what doesn't fit. Well this guy always lies to her or sends over some of his friends to buy furniture to only sell it back at crazy prices. He did the same thing to many other sellers around. He doesn't even take the time to repair the furniture. I saw that he bought a chair on Kijiji (wich he's always on) for 150$, only to sell it back at 1000$ + without having done anything to repair it. The leather was crackling and all... He's also so dishonest. I bought a couple of items from him myself and I'm always disapointed. I once bought a credenza and it had bumps in it that he had hidden with another piece of furniture in his store. Most of the other sellers are more honest and they tell you everything that is wrong before you buy so you can make the decision yourself...
I found a gem in Vanier last week . I didn't see it on the list but Zuffa Home is a pretty neat place to visit. They sell mostly mid century modern furniture , but I would defiantly go check them out if your looking for modern furniture . Really cool selection , and they are pretty new too. These guys are top choice for me when it comes to quality and super good customer service . Check their website before going, its awesome !!
I know of Zuffa Home - they contacted me at one point. I'm not a fan of reproduction furniture which is why I haven't been to the store yet.
