I forgot to show you the rest of the house!

With all the comings and goings at the new old house I just realised that I never finished showing you the rest of the before videos. This is the master bedroom. A huge room with loads of potential. It's on the first floor at the back of the main house ... just across the hallway from the office. Big enough I think for a second bathroom to go in. No more long, long walks to the bathroom in the middle of the night!

My plans for the bedroom include black walls and ethnic textiles, tulip tables for bedsides and funky 70s lights. I took these just after the wallpaper came off. Much better! Thinking of painting the lights but I'm waiting until the room is done before I commit to a colour.

Not sure if the curly cane headboard will work. Perhaps the one below (picked up ages ago and patiently waiting in the garage). A bit more asian influenced to balance out the vintage suzani I have for a bedspread. But seeing them together here I'm not so sure. Think I'll have to drag the headboard up and have a play.

I wish I hadn't started this! Now I'm thinking about using these fibreglass sidetables instead and putting the tulips either side of my new 50s silk sofa in the living room. Bugger! Knew this would happen ;)

Of course lots of artwork. I'd like a triptych for the wall above the bed and picked up a set of three brass frames in a thrift store a little while ago. Want to do an ink piece mimicking this except three not four.

Still deciding on a rug. The floors are lovely old cedar boards and look great bare. I might wait until the room is split for the bathroom and then see what I can find. Sheep skins might be fun for winter or a big flokati. If Mickey would just let me have this one. Might be just big enough for the foot of the bed but not the whole room.  Oh and my 40s plywood chairs... yes I can see those in the room too. Have to lug those upstairs too to play with!

That's it for this week. Hopefully this room will be painted in late February and then the fun begins. If you excuse me now I still have to put the last coat of paint on my office bookshelves so I can get my books up from the floor. Getting there!

OMG I cannot wait to see how your bedroom turns out. YAY for the black walls - will be incredible with the suzani and 70s vibe. I think you're right about the second headboard (maybe spray paint it? I sometimes find the natural bamboo colour kind or dreary). And I vote for the fibreglass tables. NOTE: I've been using a componibili unit as a bedside table for a while now and I'm completely fed up with the small top as I constantly knock my book/glasses/eczema cream off of it - your tulip tables have awfully small tops too.

Do we get a vote on the headboard? Mine would be the bamboo in a high gloss, dark red. Same for the base of the figreglass night tables. Spectacular with your suzani! Your tulip tables would be great but they'll be better with your new living room sofa than the fibreglass jobbies. And those plywood chairs are fabulous though the upholstery may need to be changed to work with your new palette.

Hi:
When I read the original post that included those framed ink pieces I wanted to make one immediately. I cannot wait to see how yours turns out. The house is looking great.

I'm loving all your ideas, Jo. I think the bigger side tables would work well in your bedroom too. You have amassed a wonderful collection of furniture. Just can't wait to see it all in place. xx

Did I hear the word " resale" ?

9 Jan 2011 | Unregistered Commentersuzanne

Aarrrggghhh never resale! It took me so long to find this place they will be carrying me out in a box and then cursing me for leaving so much "stuff" (read crap) behind. We have been lugging things up and down all day and I'm getting a better idea of what works and what doesn't. Sadly the fibreglass tables are not much bigger top wise than the tulips and they are lower but then again the lights are very tall.

Strangely after years of painting cane I'm coming round full circle on natural cane finish. A bit that way on painted furniture too.

I find myself agreeing with you Jo, the cane headboard a la natural would look great with black walls and ethnic textiles. Yum! Bathroom vs ensuite? Personally the ensuite appeals more. Treat yourself - as you said there is another bathroom downstairs for the rest of the house.
Our main bathroom has the laundry in it and it works fine :) Hope it's stopped raining.

I know I have probably said this before but it is always so funny to suddenly see my driveway...my slow old brain goes "oh that's right that's my driveway...oh that's right I had forgotten about them"............very silly I know. Hope all is going well down your way. Be sure to let us know if we can do anything. xx Katherine
