Will this work as a bathroom vanity?
Bought this vanity this morning at a thrift store. I would use it in my bedroom but I already have a lovely art deco veneer and mirror waterfall dresser but this was such a good bargain I couldn't leave it. Plan one is if the art deco dresser is too big for the room then I'll use this (after restoring it and replacing that god awful green curtain fabric skirt) or perhaps I can modify it and use it with a basin as a bathroom vanity. Think stark modern wet room box inside an old room and this as a counterfoil to it. Still working on this idea. We'll see. Maybe I'll just sell it after I work on it :)
My poor little workshop patio is full of ongoing jobs. I'll be so glad to move in a few weeks and have a larger space to work in!

Are you kidding me?! Of course it will work as a bathroom vanity!! Just perfect!!
The idea I'm working on for my bathroom is not entirely dissimilar, I like the old within the new...I'm thinking totally modern but BUT with an undeniable whiff of Edwardian chorus girl hoping (probably in vain) to marry well. Too complicated?
Wouldn't it be cool to have a copper or zinc tub in a spartan modern bathroom? Not an option in your rental I guess :) Perhaps a wash basin and jug or an art noveau japanesque art work? A Charles Rennie Mackintosh type chair and a faded kimono? Then lots of chrome and white tile.
Oh lady, you do paint a picture. My dreams are made of Mackintosh type chairs and art nouveau!
...rental smental, we bought our little place! It's all mine MINE to recreate Frankenstein style. And James has finally agreed to let me take out the shower/tub recess and replace it when I find the right tub. I'll be scouring salvage yards...
btw loving the faded kimono...
Jo...I must say you never cease to surprise a girl....I can definetly see this working and we sell a lot of younger ones like this ( yours looks like a real old beauty that has perhaps had a few lives) for just this purpose the trick is the width depending on what sort of bowl you want to have...Bev would be very proud of you! Are you returning to those Chelsea roots?? Ha ha, cheers Katherine
Glad you approve Miss Katherine. She does have a bit of age on her and is as heavy as all sh*t. I'll have to make sure she is very well attached to the wall!!
I'm waiting to see how you do it so I can mimic it for my bathroom!! Imitation is flattery. xx
". . . I already have [one] . . . but this was such a good bargain I couldn't leave it."
Yes! Why don't more housemates understand this concept? (So asked the person who is oft-chastised for her random island of unused furniture amassed in the middle of her bedroom and a walk-in closet that cannot be walked-in?)
I knew you were a kindred spirit Kim (in Jersey). When we are finally settled in I'm sure I'll have to sell some pieces. I've always used the excuse that it was "for the new house". When the new house is full there goes the excuse. I'm a frustrated shop owner. Maybe I should get back to interior design and have a little shop. Ha! I have a mortgage to pay first ;)
OOH just thought. I could set up a "prop" business. Hire out the pieces for photo shoots etc and then I'd have an excuse for hoarding even more!
I like the prop business idea! What a great excuse, lol. You know there are film studios in SE Qld so you never know... All we need now is an awesome Interiors mag to make Brisbane it's home, and you will have lots of fodder for stylists! This would work easily as a vanity, it's pretty big though but I'm guessing the bathroom is too?
Jo - a prop store is a FANTASTIC idea! There are not enough decent ones around and I think you'd have a booming business. Love the vanity idea, would definitely work beautifully. Can't wait to see the final result!
that would look brillaint as a vanity! and loving hte sofa purchase too. I have hit ebay hard this afternoon, if i play my cards right i'll have a few treasures to collect next weekend. man i hate working - takes away so much treasure hunting time!
good luck with the move darl x
This is really a good one, just need some cleaning and your magical hands work on it.
HI
I think it should be a minimum of 22" to work with most sinks so check that out before cutting it is pretty beautiful though
Melinda
oops that 22" deep and that is cutting it pretty fine
Love it!
