Kerbside crawling
It's that time of the year when scavengers are on the hunt in my neighbourhood. I'm always on the hunt ;) but this week is a little different. It's the city council kerb side collection, a treasure trove of rusty fridges, mattresses with unspeakable stains, termite eaten timber and the occasional find. You have to be fast though as the professionals cruise the streets tailed by trailers pouncing on the good stuff. On the way to the train I spotted this. Sad now but with a sand, a paint, new feet and lashings of danish oil rubbed into those arms it will be handsome again. A retro cushion and all will be well. I love recycling. Don't you?

what an amazing find , i am tres jealous !!!
This IS an amazing find.. I have been scavenging in toronto and on craigslist for the past 3 yrs and loving it!! I'll be heading back to Sydney in 6 months.. and I'm a bit worried that I'll be deprived.. Have to get some pointers fr you on design finds in OZ! :) hmm... maybe i'll be scavenging off gumtree site when I'm back..
Thanks guys. I'm quite pleased with it and promise to post pics when it's restored. BBT pickings are still slim on gumtree but maybe it's better in Sydney. Brisbane is SHOCKING when it comes to craigslist or gumtree. Thrift shops are still the best!
i cannot believe this was considered trash. this is a beautiful chair!!! when i lived in new jersey they would have a spring cleaning collection week. people would throw out amazing things. when my parents got divorced my mom and i had no furniture. we borrowed a truck and went to the wealthy neighborhoods and were able to furnish our entire apartment for free. i live in atlanta, ga now and we don't have a specific week this happens but i am always on the lookout for furniture on the side of the road in hopes to find a chair like this.
I have a chair similar to that, but it’s white! I love it!! as soon as I have a house (aka a yard) it’s going out there on the patio!
