Madeleine Blanchfield in Fiji

Please take me away to this stunning home in Fiji by Madeleine Blanchfield. All the elements of Blanchfield's modern Australian aesthetic are there but layered with a rich referencing of island style. A perfect holiday home or, if I had my way, a perfect forever home. Kedere rawa ni lako vata?

The chalet

A little escape to Switzerland to this chalet by Andreas Fuhrimann Gabbrielle Hächler Architects. Concrete, plywood and views from the beanbags. A minimalist, modern twist on the traditional. Love the staircase and its storage. Love the reinterpretation of the historic vernacular.

A little bit of country

I am a creature of habit it seems. Mondays are developing a distinct pattern. Mondays are the day I run away to a virtual retreat, escape to a veritable feast for the eyes. I play make believe. Maddalena's home

Maddalena Cannarsa of extrArchitecture is an Italian architect living in London and this is her recently refurbished flat. Love the light and the period features. Those floors! That wall of wooden windows! A beautiful, fresh Euro/white meets Victorian period features home with splashes of red to heighten the warmth of the wood. Maddalena has cleverly tidied up the wasted space in the original layout allowing her the luxury of a walk in robe in a relatively small one bedroom flat. Wonderful, warm and white.

David Boyle and the Freshwater semi

A narrow 3.6m, south facing semi in Freshwater, Sydney. Not much space, little light. What do you do when you need more space, don't have a wad of cash to throw at your problem and are looking for a cool design solution? Architect David Boyle has extended the rear of the house, opening it up to double height and turning a wall of glass to the coveted northern light. Timber plays off white surfaces adding richness to a casual family home. Although the budget was limited style is definitely not.
