Around my house

I too will resume regular posts starting tomorrow (I didn't receive enough pet entries for today anyway). I thought since I had time this long weekend to do a bit of organizing and photography, that I would share my latest home endeavours. Nothing too serious, mostly just some rearranging to fit all the things I had purchased in Almonte last weekend.

Once again, my kitchen shelving has been reorganized. When I was digging through the basement a few weeks ago looking for items to sell at the Ottawa Antique Show, I came across a vintage brass tea set (?) and some brass pineapples that I had thrifted and bought on Etsy several years ago. I could not let these go, so instead I tried incorporating them in my shelving display, along with my new Catherine Holm bowl I am totally stoked over (and coordinating pot I already had).

Catherine Holm bowl from Samantha Howard Vintage ~ vase from The White Monkey ~ Oaxacan vase bought in Puerto Vallarta ~ thrifted brass pineapple ~ silver egg bought in Puerto Vallarta ~ thrifted brass flower frog ~ Lumberjack candleholder by Normann Copenhagen from The Modern Shop ~ Catherine Holm pot from Etsy shop CrankHeartPony

Love that print (in my new vintage frame) by Emily McDowell purchased at Hello Yellow ~ vintage pot from Almonte ~ vase from The White Monkey

Vintage pot from Almonte ~ Oaxacan skull from Puerto Vallarta ~ candleholder by John Ward from General Fine Craft ~ thrifted Dansk candleholder ~ Hay Denmark scissors from The Modern Shop ~ air plant from Sparrow Floral Design

Saturday while running errands, my husband took us to a wood shop called KJP Select Hardwoods. *SIGH* So many glorious slabs of the most beautiful wood I have ever seen. I spotted a piece of Claro walnut that I had to have. I decided to use it on my dining table as a sort of tray for a centrepiece.

The latest happenings at 47 Park Avenue

It has been ages since I featured one of my favourite blogs, 47 Park Avenue (see here and here). Michael (and his partner Jonathan) are the proud owners of my dream home, and have been renovating and decorating it with so much love, creativity and chicness that I am blown away each time I see more of their progress. Take this bathroom for example. They had not touched it since moving in and Michael finally decided to have a go at it - on the cheap. Because how long can you live with a nasty bathroom containing carpeting (GAH!) and floral chintz?!

Michael ripped out the carpet, re-faced the tub with leftover chipboard (one of my favourite materials), used leftover paint on the wall, floor and ceiling, and picked up some tile paint to paint over the ghastly flowers. All Michael ended up purchasing (aside from the paint) was the light fixture and linen basket. Gorg!!!

The Antique Show is back!

Hey fellow Ottawans (and folks in surrounding areas looking for a little road trip) - it's Ottawa Antique Show time again!!! The show is coming up this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, and I am excited to promote it this year because my darling husband (Daff Design) has a booth where he will be selling his vintage revamped radios! WOHOO!!!! I am so excited for him to get these damn things sold and out of my house. :) Plus, they're pretty cool.

I know I am biased in praising these things but there is a large floor model on the wall opposite my desk that is wired with bluetooth. I play music from it all of the time and I don't even have to get my arse up out of my chair!

The booth is massive and there are not enough radios to fill it so I will be bringing some of my vintage goodies to fill in the gaps. My house is too packed with crap so I am excited to sell some of it off too (including all of my coloured West German pottery!). You will have to come to the show to see (although I spot one above)....but here are some photos I took of the fabulous finds from last year.

Style Labo

This past Friday my husband and I took a little road trip to Montréal so I could take advantage of some end of season clothing sales (I've got some photos of my scores on Instagram or my other blog), and at the end of the trip we stopped at a shop we've been scoping out online for a few years but have never managed to visit in person. Style Labo is now our favourite shop of all time. I'm not kidding. We were like kids in a candy store, drooling at every turn. This to-die-for store sells the most incredible vintage industrial finds you can imagine, along with some new items here and there. Lighting, lighting and more lighting (old and new, including my absolute favourite = Jieldé), ottomans/pillows/settees covered in vintage postal sacks of army canvas, lockers, marquee letters, signs etc. etc. I toured every inch of the warehouse space (gorg!!) taking photos while I went. But first, we couldn't leave without picking up a few little things...

The candle smells SO GOOD and was worth the semi-hefty price because it's a beautiful porcelain/ceramic vessel I can't wait to re-use.

My husband saw this massive pillow and immediately said he had to have it. I would have preferred it to be cream coloured instead of blue/grey but hey, we're trying to make it work on the living room sofa. Super comfy!

And now, welcome to Style Labo!

Crate madness

Happy Thanksgiving to all our Canadian readers! I am beyond excited to head to my parents later today and eat my face off. :) Speaking of giving thanks, I know I should be thankful that I have a home (among many other things) but WOW - I'd rather live in this funky loft! I have an obsession with vintage storage items - particularly wooden crates, and I have never seen anything like this before. It's crate madness!!!! They're EVERYWHERE!!! They're makeshift walls, a kitchen island base, a bed, night stands, a coffee table, sofas, a bathroom vanity..... (via Le case di Elixìr) **OOPS - Jo already blogged it here but these photos are much better)
