Stalking modern industrial

I'm stalking in the Sydney suburb of Balmain. Once the home of factories, warehouses, wharves and the workers employed there it has now undergone a renaissance becoming one of Sydney's most sort after suburbs. Today's home, by architects Carter Williamson, references the industrial past of the suburb but its contemporary design is all about space, style and luxury. 3 levels and a roof terrace with stunning city views, 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms (the ensuite is stunning) and stackable parking for 2 cars. No price on the listing but you can be sure it's multi-millions. Link here while it lasts.

The Stables

Strong, resolved and enriching architecture. That is what New Zealand design boutique practice McKinney + Windeatt Architects aims to provide and their project, The Stables is a fine example. From its ivy clad walls to the dramatic profile of floor to ceiling, wall to wall steel and glass windows curtains flapping in the breeze, from the cosy confines of the exposed brick kitchen to the bright sunlight streaming in to the adjoining private terrace, all joined by the consistent march of the connecting staircase the house is part stage, part gallery, all home.

Playing favourites

We try not to play favourites here on Desire to Inspire but sometimes we just have to fess up. There will always be a special spot in our design hearts for those who are ahead of the pack, who repeatedly create homes where every room goes straight into our inspiration files, where we would move in in a heart beat. Jessica Helgerson and her team are such designers. Just look at this 1920's Portland home with its soft and muted colour palette and a modern, fresh fitout that respects the history of the house. Actually I'd be happy to just live in the kitchen a la Cinderella. Neely House by Jessica Helgerson Interior Design.
