The terrace house

Light filled and beautifully bright this terrace house in Woollahra, Sydney is only 3 meters wide. Poppy and Charlotte O’Neil of POCO Designs have used white extensively within the open plan design to stretch the house is the mind's eye. A wall of glass floods both floors with sunlight and blurs the barrier between inside and out. A luxe living area is grounded with greys and warmed with gold and red accents. Contemporary and traditional, sophisticated and warm.

Andy Martin encore

Please don't ask me why it's called the "Beach House" when it sits in west London. Perhaps it's the bright, casual vibe. Lots of bleached timber, pops of colour, walls of glass to let in the light and capture the sea garden view. A family home that is casually stylish, at ease with its Edwardian era heritage and its modern extension. Evocative of being on holiday in the city. The reason doesn't really matter. Stalking exposed brick

I'm in Redfern in inner-city Sydney and I'm stalking what appears to be your typical historical terrace house ... until you go inside. Holy exposed brick Batman! That must have been some sandblasting job. The 1880s building now has an industrial vibe over 3 levels. I'm not sure how I feel about this house. I want to believe that it is the photography that has me holding back because I love it on the video. Link here while it lasts.

Barn conversion

Another historic building renovation from the portfolio of Chelsea-based architectural firm McLaren.Excell. Pocket Corner Barn celebrates the original materials and soaring spaces of this 18th century brick and flint cattle barn. There's an almost Scandinavian feel. Check out the moveable steel staircase.

A Brooklyn townhouse renovation

You all know by now that I LOOOOOVE a good Brooklyn townhouse renovation. This one was submitted by the lovely folks of Lang Architecture (featured once before here). This 4 story Italianate row house was was converted from a three family to a single-family house with original interior details carefully restored. The garden floor features an office and den, the parlor floor has a living room with custom window seat at the front and a kitchen and new steel balcony at the rear. The fine wood period stair has been restored and leads to the bedroom floors. The master bedroom overlooks the street, with a generous dressing room and bathroom suite at the rear. The bathroom features custom steel and wood partitions, providing a warm complement to marble slab and tile.
