A little bit of country
I am a creature of habit it seems. Mondays are developing a distinct pattern. Mondays are the day I run away to a virtual retreat, escape to a veritable feast for the eyes. I play make believe. This Monday, then, is no different. I'm running away as fast as I can to this little eco cabin in Uruguay I found on the pages of Elle Decor España. Simple, unpretentious and beautiful. Don't come visit me straight away though. I'm draining the water tank dry in that outdoor shower. I know. Not very eco of me but I am just day dreaming here ... and what a lovely daydream.
Can Lis
Can Lis, Jørn Utzon's family home in Majorca built in 1972. Utzon settled in the Balearic Islands after leaving the Sydney Opera project in 1966. A house built using traditional building methods and materials but interpreted by one of the giant's of 20th century architecture. A place for the day to day rituals of living steeped in ancient traditions. The Utzon Foundation carefully restored the by now rundown building between October 2011 and February 2012. A spiritual, almost sensuous space sympathethically brought back to life.
Ottmanngut
Take me away to an historic family home. Fill it full of cherished antiques, some Biedermeier, some Jugendstil with a mix of modern and some rustic stone. Surround it with working vineyards and place it on the slopes of the South Tyrol in Italy and quite frankly I'd be in heaven. For when your hotel needs that personal touch, like staying with family friends ... the Ottmanngut.
Rustic on the outside...
I love a little juxtaposition of old and new in my interiors. I've probably said that a thousand times. It's that element of surprise that gets me every time. This home I found on Le Case di Elixír rocks my world. Looking at the exterior, you'd never guess what was inside. Unfortunately the photos of the interior are mainly of the kitchen area but those alone did it for me.
