Axel Vervoordt

Axel Vervoordt. If you do not know this name, you will remember it once you get to the end of this post. Axel Vervoordt of Antwerp, Belgium started out as an antiques dealer and has become one of the most influential interior designers of our time. His spaces are poetic, artistic and mesmerizing. It is almost more what is not there that what is. These first two rooms have captured me and made my heart skip a beat.

A refuge in Spain

I am not done with the virtual vacations, because I hate winter with every ounce of my being. So now I am taking you to Los Corales de Buelna, a municipality in CantabriaSpain. This is the holiday retreat for artist Nikolas Piper and it is the best of everything. Rustic architecture with stone and exposed beams, mostly mid-century decor, and a matching dog. It all works so well together I could spend the entire winter here. EASILY. Via Elle Decor España, photos by Manolo Yllera.

Leather, wood and stone

I fell in love/hate with this cottage/home in Spain featured in a recent issue of Nuevo Estilo. It's huge open layout is perfect for cottage life and would be a fantastic gathering space of lots of friends and family. The combination of rustic (reclaimed wood, stone) mixed with a leather chesterfield and plaid chair also joined with some mid-century chairs and tables - bringing such disparate pieces together really works here. However, I am baffled by all of the window treatments - massively long purple curtains (why purple? WHY??) and blinds hung way too high. AGH!! The one red, one silver light fixtures in the bathroom...bad idea. (I won't even discuss the bedding). And it is disappointing to see such a lazy approach to the ceiling and beams. Spraying it ALL white instead of leaving some of the raw wood showing, or at least the steal pieces. (Designed by Kotablue and Mercedes de las Heras)

Industrial modern in Italy

This home really speaks to me. A modern structure with concrete and steel elements, raw wood kitchen cabinets, and a random mix of modern, rustic and industrial elements for the decor. Gorgeous. The only negative I see is I absolutely detest tile floor in a living room. Via Le case di Elixìr.
