Fish and chips inspiration

So much great design coming from commercial work. So much inspiration. A fish and chip restaurant in Ealing, London has my mind twisting and turning trying to figure out how I'm going to fit these ideas in my home. Fun and functional, young and quirky. Definitely not fusty. Definitely fab. Distressed and industrial, schoolhouse and rustic. Warm timber with bright colour. Love the typography (yes I'm a typo nerd), love the rough planks, the red and blue, the "newspaper" walls, the subway tiles, the lights, love it all. Vibrant new British design. Maison Estate

I've booked a table. The one outside under the tree. Food and wine and good company and a heavenly setting. The vineyard, the restaurant and tasting room in a converted farm cottage. Maison Estate at Franschhoek in the Valley of the Huguenots in South Africa. I don't think it can get any better.

A funky restaurant

Hanna from Poland wrote us about her architecture and interior design firm called PB Studio. She thought we'd be interested in this restaurant she designed. We don't typically feature non-residential spaces but I thought the dining space of this restaurant was very inspriring. I adore the over abundance of penadnt lights, and the bench seating with wall-installed cushions is so cool! Would be perfect for a dining nook in a kitchen. The larch wood is gorgeous too!

Greenhouse by Joost

Eco-friendly, sustainable design, pop-up restaurant by Joost Bakker for the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival. The building and furniture are made from reclaimed or recycled materials, organic waste is composted and feeds the herbs, no mains electricity (it's generated and fuelled by pure, unrefined canola oil), wall cladding and structural bracing is all-natural, formaldehyde-free plywood. (You can read more on Joost's site). Raising grid like around the structure is Joost's signature reo bar grid gardens. Beth generously shared these photos with us after her visit to the restaurant and I guarantee as great as these shots are her food shots will have you salivating.

Matt Woods and Avido

Hip, cool and clever. Matt Woods again? No this time I'm talking about his design for Avido. Macramé on the ceiling (a Sarah Parkes piece), old brick walls balanced by warm timber counters, slashes of colour and an eclectic collection of classic furniture. Avido means greedy and I'm certainly eager to use some of these ideas in my own home. Photos by Will Reichelt.
