Eyescream

I scream. You scream. We all scream for  ....eyescream? A self service shop in Barcelona selling little monster bowls of Taiwanese shaved ice cream. From product design to branding, graphics and packaging all the way to interior design Estudio m Barcelona has taken what is normally an amorphous mass of sweet goop and introduced a fun taste and visual feast to the passing customers. How cool (pun intended) are those ice cream monsters with their sugar eyes?

Il Duomo

The renovation of a coffee bar in Lleida, Catalonia explores texture and light. Rope and slates made from fruit boxes from the local area provide visual interest while light and more importantly shadow draws patrons to cozy corners. The atmosphere is warm and rustic like the local country shop it is , avoiding the high tech and harsh while referencing the agricultural buildings of the area. The space is simple and real, the buzz is not only from coffee but from patrons at ease. Design is by Barcelona based AAIMM.

Travis Walton

Two designs by Melbourne based interior designer Travis Walton. One residential, one commercial. The first, the Cloverdale Residence, is a contemporary home with a limited colour palette that is lifted with luxury finishes of marble, travertine tiling and European Oak. The open plan design is perfect for modern Australian living. The second design, Threefold , an acclaimed Melbourne eatery and supplier involved the gut renovation of an historic hotel building in Flinders Lane. French bistro meets urban industrial, inviting, intimate, a mix of the original and the new. Stealing ideas from here for my next kitchen.

Fougaro

Tina from Greece wrote us about a really cool renovation project in Nafplion that she blogged about. It's called Fougaro ("smokestack") - a former pre-WWII tomato cannery that closed in 1956, was bought at an auction in 1997 after 15 years or restoration and renovation, is now a fantastic venue dedicated to art and creativity complete with an Arts & Humanities library, a workshop, a café, a concert hall and, most importantly, an exhibition hall. WOW - what an incredible, inspirational place. (Photos via Yatzer and Fougaro's FB).

Joanna Laajisto

Helsinki based interior architect and designer Joanna Laajisto's philosophy is "not to clutter this world with unnecessary things but to find the hidden beauty of each space and to enhance it by creative solutions." Two inspiring projects. The first Bar&Co, a modern take on a 1920's bistro. Think marble, oak, leather, wrought iron and copper. Love the hand forged copper candle sconces. The second a dark and brooding minimalist home. A modern interior of rich woods and contemporary furniture.
