Magnolia remodel

This remodel has managed to blow me away. Another one masterminded by SHED Architecture & Design. Located in Seattle, this 1914 craftsman had the exterior and main floor reworked to include a new kitchen, bathroom, laundry and backyard connection whilst keeping original details intact. Modern now blends with classic details and brings this house from ineffective to WOW.

A Camille Hermand renovation

We have featured the work of architect Camille Hermand a few times and I think this project is by far my favourite. Oh, how I would LOVE this home in the Paris suburbs. It is EVERYTHING. The three-story house was completely revised and renovated. An open-plan living room and kitchen occupies the ground floor. Atelier-style glass partitions define each area and maximise natural light throughout. The master bedroom and guest room occupy the first floor. And the top floor is dedicated to the children. Features such as the bookshelves in the living room and the walk-in wardrobe on the first floor are made to measure. The home is characterised by a moody yet contemporary palette of blues and greys that complement the traditional features of the house (such as the original tiling on the ground floor and the beautiful Parisian style staircase), while bringing the house stylishly into the 21st century.

Hartree

A writer's stylish retreat is just one of elegant contemporary spaces created by West Australian Hartree & Associates Architects. The addition to the original 1911 bungalow is light filled, stylish, open plan yet intimate. Be still my beating heart. What I wouldn't give to have such a wonderful office/library/music room.

Bridging Boyd

Jolson's renovation and reinterpretation of Robin Boyd's 1954 Richardson House is a triumph. The original house was literally built as a bridge to resolve site difficulties by spanning a dry creek bed that ran through the lot. The Melbourne-based studio's additions address the iconic shape, extrapolating Boyd's exploration of geometry with circles and tangents. The new glances the old, meets, embraces, pulls away all the time celebrating the interplay of house and landscape.

Stalking a 70s apartment redo

I'm in South Melbourne stalking a stylish renovation of a 70s (toss a coin it could be late 60s) multilevel apartment. Hip, young, loads of light, concrete floors, terrace for soaking up some rays. Who would know from the drab exterior? Link here while it lasts.
