A period home with a modern extension ... it's what Australian architects do so well. Oh and seamless indoor outdoor integration of course. I'm stalking a Queens Park, Sydney home with a cozy but funky front (the facade is a dead giveaway that something special lurks within) and a split-level extension featuring a spacious parents' retreat and a huge open-plan kitchen/dining/living zone with sliding glass walls. Though this home is not really furnished I had to share because I have been dreaming about living in a rough, industrial, loft-like home for at least the past 20 years. Nothing like this exists in Ottawa so I can keep dreaming but if someone has £1,995,000 and is looking for something in London to put your stamp on, scoop this one up! Never mind that it looks like rats were eating the kitchen cupboards, and the painted floorboards are a bit rough...this 3 bedroom, 2,000 sq ft over 4 floors conversion from furniture-restoration workshops built in 1905 has SUCH AMAZING BONES. I'm stalking masculine, minimal and a Murphy bed in inner-city Sydney. Thankfully the fold-up bed is only in the guest room. A two bedroom apartment in an Art Deco warehouse building with bespoke joinery and high-spec finishes all within easy walking distance of the centre of one of the world's most vibrant cities? Still stalking. Still in Sydney but this time I have moved to Glebe. I'm stalking a c1850 stables conversion. Small but perfectly formed, this wonderful contemporary home with historical touches is a great example of inner-city reuse. Mid mod meets hipster cool meets colonial. Link here while it lasts.
